I hear they increase gas mileage as well.... so is it def. true that it will kill your battery? or only if you dont get the alt. pulley as well ?

It is a smaller pulley for your crank, with it being samller you it takes less effort to complete a revoultion of the engine.

The reason it is called an underdrive pulley is because most of the accessories are underdriven because the pulley is smaller.

Less rotational mass, plus less outer diameter. This results in a free revving engine.

For the record... it doesnt give you horsepower, it free's it up The larger, heavier stocker soaks up some power while being rotated.... the ASP soaks up less.

If you are worried about a dying battery or not getting enough charge from the alternator, just go with an Alternator OD pulley, they are only $20.....well thats what I sold mine for anway...

When you had your pulley, how much horsepower did it "free up"?

so it basically just decreases drivetrain loss? And how tough is it to install?

Does anybody have an amp/subwoofer setup with the ASP Pulley? I did the pulley on my old LT1 and had problems with the alt. being burnt up (3 times) with my pretty large system, so I removed it! I thought I would never do that to my LS1, but I wouldn't mind 10 more hp if it wouldn't harm anything else!

wouldnt it be 3 hp LESS for the auto's, because you would need the alternater pulley

you need a pully puller to get your stock crank off, i've heard members here say they took it to a shop and had them change it which cost ~$30... if thats true its worth it just to have a shop do it.

No, it would be more hp because the alt. pulley is going to free up more hp than the stock one.

IF YOU HAVE A M6 AND A AUDIO SYSTEM THEN YOU WILL NEED THE ALT PULLEY

Wrong, it is an overdrive pulley they need, which is larger, which will reduce the effects of the underdrive crank pulley. The pulley isn't that hard, but it's not really something that's very fun. If you can get it done for $30, I would take it to someone. It will take you probably an hour if you've never done it before. If you don't have the right tools you can forget about it though. You need a puller, a new bolt, and a big wrench to break that thing free.

Then what the hell does an alternator pulley do? I'm confused...

Oh, and you can rent a puller from like auto zone.

yes you can usally rent the pulley puller from a auto store, for the first question basically it decrease's the effect of the underive as it is a overdriven pulley, which in turn results in freeing up less hp but thats at the cost of having your battery not die on you.

I read that exact thing on lm performance's website...word for word...
It's the alternator/overdrive pulley thing I'm confused about.

When you get an alt overdrive pulley it spins it faster than with the normal pulley. This makes it to where when you have an underdrive crank pulley (makes everything on the entire belt system turn slower) the alt. runs at the speed it normally would run with the normal crank pulley. It basically just makes the alternator put out the same voltage while everything else is being spun slower.

The alternator overdrive pulley will reduce the negative effects that the crank underdrive pulley has on the alternators charging ability
