That's what I figured since 3rd ends at around 165 or so with the 2.73s.

With a 275/45/18 tire, M6, and 3.23 it says I can beat the computer limitation by 1 MPH. (256 MPH) Although, that is going to be impossible unless you have some serious power.

Who the hell in their right mind would go that fast?

Speed cut-offs are there for a reason!

Z rated tire LS1s have 160mph speed limiters in the computer and non Z rated tire LS1s had a limited speed of 120 also in the computer.

3.23, 2.73 and 3.42 cars are all capable of doing more speed than that but stock they are limited

your m6 has a 3.42 gear. and 6th is useless as climbing gear, your top speed will be attained in 5th. the 2.73 stock geared z28's top out at 108 or 115. i believe the a4's top out at 149 (thats what dads a4 vette did) theres a governor, and m6's top at 162. i know that for a fact. i believe if an m6 was ungoverned it would hit 168 if i remember right.

Hi. I was trying to get the largest number for the given ratios. You are completely right about not being able to use 6th though due to friction inherit in reality. It all in jest though. Nothing to do tonight.

165 here. it was in 5th close to 5500-5700 rpm i believe. after i saw the needle was pegged, i watched the road and glanced at the tach once or twice. thats with stock 342 gears and 275 40 17s. only one other car on the road, which i saw from 1/4 mile away, and when i passed him, he just stopped in his lane.. just stopped outta nowhere. i think i mightve scared him. probably shook the car too. (got caught in the TA's Jetwash, lol)

I hit 6000RPM in 3rd Gear at 130MPH with 3.23s and at 80MPH im at 2500RPM in OD so I dont see why you couldn't peg the 165-168MPH mark Also Isnt it not good for the transmission on the D to OD shift at redline?

Here's my internally stock, but full bolt on '01 WS6 doing very near it's top speed of 172 mph. Keep in mind this was at an actual altitude of 5500 ft elevation and a density altitude of 6300 ft. At sea level it would've been making quite a bit ( 30 rwhp or so ) more hp. RPM's at this speed is 6000-6100 rpm.

Here's another one at the end of the road.

BTW stock limiter IS 162 mph exactly for cars with z-rated tires

162 governed with Z rated tires from the factory.

108 if not.

Those are the factory F-Body specs.

Real life, depending on averaged two way directional runs -or not- ungoverned, model, tire size, etc? 165-170...maybe a tick or two more stock. Regular C5's run out around 172-175 and they have a lower CD and less frontal area.

i got up to 155 with my a4 3.73 setup, couldn't really tell if it was topped out b/c of the 3800stall converter... it was around 5800rpm though and i was on a slight uphill. Can't see my car being able to go much faster than 160 anyway, especially w/ the gears

Took my 98 T/A i had to limiter the first week i got it. When the limiter kicked in at the speed kinda scared the **** out of me an started thinking it is probably more of a bad idea to have a limiter that kicks in that hard at that high of a speed. I had my limiter removed not to long after that. After all the mods and everything were done to it i managed to hit what i think was 6800 or alittle more rpms in 5th. I had 3.73s at the time. It was a long straight with a small downward slope trowards the end. (what a great day that was) Wish the straight could of went farther to enjoy that speed for a little longer.

In stock tune my 96 Z vert topped out at 118. I don't know about coupes and T-top cars since I had the speed limiter programmed out on the 02 but I have had it up to just a bit over 140 (ran out of road).

Never found the limiter on my 01 Z28 2.73 car when it was stock and I more than buried the speedo many times. When I started tuning the car (yes it was ALL stock too) the factory limiter was set at 177mph. It's now changed to 256mph so I'll never have to worry about that again. It had Z rated tires factory.

To the guy who said 2.73 car's stock run 108 or 115........I've owned 2 of them now and each one would bury the speedo plus some in 3rd gear straight off the showroom floor.

I've had my car up close to 170. I was racing a ZO6 and I was ahead of him the whole way until that point. Then I guess the lower coefficent of Vette made him pass me but not by much.

look back at the old posts, it depends on the factory tire option, if its Z-rated its 162, i forget what the non z-rated tires are, 105 or somthing like that, ive had mine up to 155 before, and have sence had the limiter either removed or raised
