Ways to tell if the speed limiter is on a Transam
Well im off to purchase this Trans Am in San Diego really soon. But I was wondering what are the ways to tell if the car has the 155 speed limiter as opposed to the slower one. Now, I know the tires are usually the way to tell, but this car does not have the stock tires on it. So is there any other way to find out besides that? It have the speedometer that goes up to 155-160 if that helps. Thanks in advance.
BTW this is the Trans Am.

Just a tip......dont mess around at high speeds ( 100+ ) without the Z rated tires....dont worry about the limiter until the tires can handle it. Blowing a tire at high speeds sucks....sometimes the outcome is even worse....get the Z rated tires, tune out the limiter if its at 115
Ditto on checking the door for the original factory tire specs

im pretty sure the sticker only says what the tire options are. My sticker has both on it. I know mine came with z rated tires cause it has the performance axle option on it, but otherwise, the only thing i can think of its taking it past 115

Another easy way to tell with that car is if has a steel driveshaft.
The M6 cars with those non z-rated tires (smaller size as well 235/50/16 vs 245/50/16) will have that steel driveshaft. But...he could have pulled it out and sold it before trading it in, you never know. But I'd say, if it has a steel driveshaft & no door sticker saying z-rated tires, then its a good chance it will have that lower speed limit. No biggie, just delete it out with a tune.
*Edit- Just take it out on a test drive past 105-115mph, whatever that stupid limit is.
Peace,
Craig.
