Not to be a smart ***, but why don't you just pick yourself up a used lid on ebay or one of the boards for $50 or so if you are wanting to be cheap.
Save the dremel tool for doing the free ram air or self porting your throttle body.

exactly
i want to keep it looking stock. and 2nd. why waste 50 dollars. when i can do it for free. and i dont need a dremel tool their are many things to use to cut with. esp hard plastic. and i already have acess to a dremel also. so i would waste money going on ebay. some people shouldnt be so lazy. im sorry but if you can do a mod yourself for cheaper do it. its not that hard. and if a free mod is to technical for you then you probly shouldnt be modding anything at all bought or done yourself.

Taking out the baffles from the stock lid is the first mod I did. Did it help? Who knows. But I did it anyway.
The baffles are of a plastic that I found was easy to snap/twist off. I got a pair of lineman pliers and went to it. It took other tools to get them all out and I only left the ones that were just too damn hard to get out.
I finished up with a die grinder and some burrs. There was plastic bits EVERYWHERE and it took a good half hour to vacuum them all up.
I wish I knew what it did, but there's no way I could afford dyno pulls for before, after, and real aftermarket lid.

I doubt you will gain anything from your lid mod. Air flow is much more than just creating more space. Lids have a design. They aren't just stock lids with the baffles removed. That's like saying why by a supercharger for $5000 when I can by a hairdryer for $100. I think it's an idea and it may give you some power, but don't talk like this mod is just as good as a lid and it's stupid to pay $50 for one.

The baffles are there to reduce noise but they also make the air turbulent. I believe the reason for removing the baffles is not to increase space but to smooth (and perhaps increase) the airflow through the lid.
Will it hurt? Doubtful. Can it help? The theory is there, but without direct comparison I (we) will never know. And, certainly, nobody can say it won't work with any more authority than somebody else can say it will. It isn't likely to be as efficient as an aftermarket lid, but the price is right and it retains the stock look.
Good enough for me. Someday when I have a spare chunck of change maybe I'll get a better lid. Or not.

The SLP lid has a stock appearence if that's what you want.
Don't waste your time dickin' around with the stock lid. The aftermarket ones are going to net you about 10 rwhp, tops. That's not that much to begin with, so i would want to make sure I got the whole 10 hp, rather than hoping for a couple with a cut up stock lid.
