Are these a good first mod to have? How much should i expect them to increase horsepower?

Lid is a great first mod. Bellows aren't. They are a mostly appearance mod. Lid will get ya around 5-10 rwhp and will help the more your motor is modded. Read the "So you want to be fast" sticky in the new members section. Lots of great info there.

They are not a bad start for a newb. You may net about 10hp Make sure to do the free ram air mod. Also a cut-out in the i-pipe is a inexpensive way to net another 10-12 hp. Be care with some of the Hp claim of some of the mods out there. Research and get alot of opinions before you purchase. There was a really good thread a while back about the "beginner mod mistakes" that new member had made. Try to search for that there are alot of good opinions in that thread.

Bellows couldn't hurt and you can make your own. You can get the stuff to make it for about $5 at home depot. But yea the Lid and air filter were my first mods.

I got the K&N at the same time I put the lid on. I noticed at least 40 hp just from the filter....haha no jk I dont know exactly how much hp I got from the lid but I definitely noticed a difference. Well worth it!

Cleck on the HERE link under MTI Power Induction Airbox to read how a lid will help you gain some extra horses.

It's the ribbed rubber part that connects to the MAF and TB

Don't ls1 guys usually replace that with a section of PVC? I know thats what the 3.8 guys have done that I've talked too.

Yeah kinda. Ls1 guys usually replace the stock accordian-ish bellows with a piece of fernco, a rubber tubing that you can get at home depot. There's a guide for doing this on here.
