Free Ram Air... is It Worth It?
This is only for the people who have done the !FRA. So please, no one else vote on this.
I'm making this thread because im tired of looking for opinions on the !FRA all over the site.

I would like to know this to. I did mine yesterday.
I would have to say it probably helps a little bit but nothing significant. My thinking is, it helps breath better so it's better than stock. But asfar as HP I would think maybe 1-2 HP at the most unless at a higher rate of speed. Either way, if it doesnt help with HP atleast it will help the engine breath better. So I vote yes.

I voted no because right now I don't have a cooler stat or the fans tuned to kick on at lower temps. Once that's done I do think it can make a difference at the track if you don't have long staging lines and you give the car time to cool with the engine off and the hood up.

Should be renamed the "Free Hot Air" mod. I didn't seem to notice any of the "elevated IAT temps" posts until after I did the FRA. I don't like the thought of my intake heat soaking in the staging lanes or at low speed, so I would not recommend FRA without some kind of CAI.
Now I have the SSRA, and I am happy with it. You get the air without the heat.

pros:
slightly better throttle response
small hp gain
it's free
cons:
dirty filter
heat soak
heat soak
heat soak
now I wouldn't mind cleaning the K&N filter alittle more often, but I hate heat soak. It's bad for the engine, and it's bad for power. I also live in Miami where I get some ofthe worst traffic ever during some of the hottest days ever. Couple that with heat soak all the time and my engine won't be lasting the 130,000 miles that I need it to.

http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...sity/index.htm. Here ya go buddy. Go to Install documents on the left and on the top you should see Free Ram Air.
Basically cutting the lower air box air to allow more air to flow through. I did this recently but I havnt been driving my car for a while. I guess I'll buy a CAI to avoid this heat soakin ****.

I have it done on bolth of my cars. I have the Super Sucker from QTP on the SS.
I'd like to see some tests done to see what the temp reading on the SAME car. Make a few runs without it, and a few with it in a short manner so that the temp that day does not change to much.
You're getting air from the ground.....hot air rises, so "shouldn't it be cooler there lower to the groung? Plus you're getting moving air.
Plus I don't think a dyno will show because you are not getting up to speed, them fans are not going to blow 80mph winds.
Peace,
Craig.

The ram air from the SS hood is worthless.
