Default Finally Got My LS1!

man i'm happy, and boy did i pick up a deal.

i've owned a 95 3.4L firebird V6 for 3 years and i really liked the car. i enjoyed driving it, it was just slow...really slow. well, i finally found a good deal.

i've been looking for about 6 months for an LS1 with decent mileage (like under 50,000) for a decent price as i'm 19 and basically broke.

well, i've always searched for a 50 mile radius on autotrader and all i find are cars with 80,000 miles for $15,000. well, i decided i'd check out a 100 mile radius and i found a 2001 firebird formula with 25,000 miles on it for 15,995. that sounded pretty decent. i checked back in 2 days and it was lowered to $14,995. wow, i got excited. i decided to take the 120 mile drive, alone, to check it out. btw, the drive sucked.

i made the deal in the end because kbb.com listed my car worth 2,800-ish and they gave me 3,900 for the car, plus lowered the car to 14,550. i got the car for $10,650 cash. of course i still gotta pay for tax since i live in NJ and i bought it in PA

it's basically flawless minus a little ding in the clear coat in the bumper, but when i get a WS6 hood in the future i'll just have it retouched in that spot when the hood is painted. what's that, a dollar?

the pros:
-power everything
-t-tops
-brand new tires
-SLP intake/exhaust package
-chrome Z-06 rims (hell yea)
-25,000 miles
-cloth interior (many people think this a con, but as my buddy says, leather is for luxury, cloth is for sport. it's lighter anyway)

cons:
-2.73 gears. do i see an upgrade in the future? is the sky blue?

man, i am absolutely ecstatic. the guy at the dealership was desperate to get rid of it. he's had it for 2 months and needs to move it out and was about to take it to auction (he showed me his "chart" that showed him losing $450 on the deal. yea, right).

all in all, i got an extra $1100 for my car and a car $1400 below bluebook value from a dealership. who's bad?

he said as i was leaving i just got the cheapest firebird formula with 25,000 miles on it in the county. that i almost believe.

i'll post pictures later

i picked it up from this place called Auto Showcase of Lititz. it's a few miles away from Lancaster (a long drive when you live close to Atlantic City ) in Lititz, PA.

basically, you take exit 286 to Reading on the PA turnpike. that'll take you within 10-15 miles.

the place has pretty much specialty cars. it's really small, only maybe 25-30 cars, all garage kept. they had STi's, an audi tt, a G35, some turboed volvo, a rare V8 VW, a mustang, an EVO...higher end, nice cars. great place, i'm glad it was a small dealer or i never woulda gotten that deal.

Looks good, and 2.73's aren't such a big deal. I'm actually going back to them once I save up enough to buy HPTuners so I can fix my speedo and shift points. I got a used 2.73 carrier and gears for less than the price of new replacement 2.73 gears, and since my posi is pretty much shot anyway, just made more sense.

Spend the money you'd have spent on the gears and install on something else, like headers and y or a torque converter. I wish I would have done headers instead, myself.

Congrats on the purchase, seems like you got a good deal. Formulas always look good. Maroon color looks good especially with the wheels. Have fun with it and I can see that in a matter of months you will be wrenching away on this car installing mods. Good luck and enjoy the car.

yea headers will definitely be the first mod i do. the only question is whether or not to get a y pipe or do true duals. i was set on duals until i heard the dual/dual system. i figured i would scrap it immediately but man, it sounds surprisingly good! and i love the way you can't hear it at all at 60mph. the LM system doesn't sound good at all IMO, but this is great. i'm so conflicted...

but that'll be for after summer is over and i save more money. i'm down to my last 7k and that's for tuition

yea i just may keep the dual/dual, i'm impressed. it looks much better than in the pictures, too.

i'm not sure where i'm gonna take it yet. one thing i don't wanna mess with are internals (i.e. no cam or stall converter, although i may put in a shift kit if i feel bold down the line). it's gonna be a daily driver so i have a feeling i'll go the route of full exhaust and a ported TB and that'll be the end of it...but only time will tell.

good pick up man....thats a pretty good deal...if you search hard enough you can find some killer deals on them...i picked mine up for 11k and its an 01 a4 had 41k on the clock i think and had a few exterior mods but no performance mods...nothing like an ls1...i like the burgandy on the formulas...good buy!!!

thanks for the color compliment. the more i look at it, the more i love it. the rims just go together so well with it. sounds like you got an awesome buy on yours too!

man i'm so happy, i even woke up smiling. i can't get this stupid smirk off my face. it's been glued on for 2 days now. i look mental.

these cars go for soooo much money (18k for a car with 50,000 miles? wtf?) but it shows if you look hard enough, a good deal can be had!

just for the record...

first fillup, 21mpg driving half of the tank in stop-and-go traffic and gettin' on it a few times to..."see what it can do and get used to the car"...yea, that's my excuse

beyond ecstatic. yet another reason to love these engines, it's the same mileage as my 3.4L 6-banger!

Hah... sorry I had to bump this up lol. I saw your sig pic from another thread and found this one. I was looking at this very car recently and would have pursued it had it been 6-speed. I live in Lancaster and work in Lititz. I pass that dealer twice a day lol. Congrats on a nice car.
