there are two f-bodys at the pontiac dealership by me, both are 02 cars with slp options i believe, both are red extremely low mileage fully loaded cars, i;m talking less than 500 miles between them, the yare both 31,000. one is an SS the other is a WS6, so i guess in different areas the cars have different values.

I noticed that too when I was shopping around for a trans am with the WS6 package a few years ago. The regular T/A's were priced about the same as the SS's with the ramair T/A's being a few thousand more. That's why I ended up getting an SS, and I don't regret it at all.
In general, pontiacs seem to be priced a little more than the chevys for similar models (pursuit vs. cobolt, sunfire vs cavalier, t/a vs camaro.....). I thing it's an image thing with pontiac being percieved as GM's "performance" division.

pontiacs are usually a little better appointed. usually have a better interior, maybe better door speakers and "dressier" doors and a "dressier" grille. is that worth another 3k? that's up to you to decide. for me it was. i'm not a big camaro fan, but to each his own. if it were up to me, the firebird would be the only car i'd buy for my entire life. i hope they come back with them before my LS1 craps out

Edit- The GTO is the opposite. The auto is standard and the 6 speed is extra.

Actually there is a 2001 WS6 trans am with 40k miles going for 18,900 and there is a 2001 SS down the street with 37k going for 19,500. Maybe the SS is worth more because it's a manual, and the WS6 is an auto.

The Pontiac is always going to sell more than it's sister Chevrolet. Most times the Pontiac has a few more standard features and is an upgrade to the sister Chevrolet which justifies the price increase but I still hold that a T/A with the same equipment as a Z28 will not be 7k higher on the sticker. Someone show me and if I'm wrong I'll gladly admit it.
EDIT: What I would really like to see is a TA with the same equipment as my Z28 has. I am really curious to see how much more the TA is. I think the only options avilable for my Z28 that I didn't have was the CD changer and the Automatic.

Heck, in 02 didn't they make almost as many SS's as Z28's?

There must be some kind of WS6 shortage in Canada if there is that much of a price premium. Buy the car you want, search for a price your willing to pay, period.
P.S. Most Camaro/Firebird guys like both cars, I know I do. I've owned both from different generations. It's cool if you prefer one or the other, everyone probably does in at least some years, but don't get too excited about it. Camaro vs Firebird, taken seriously, is a big time "white trash" argument.
