Default Trans Am's priced way higher then SS's? Why?

I don't know how it is in the U.S, but here in Canada a T/A is at least $5000-$10,000 more then a Z28 or SS. Did the T/A cost more money brand new? I was going to buy a Trans Am, but i can't justify spending an extra $10,000, so it looks like i'm going the SS route. To be honest, if it has an LS1 and a 6 speed tranny I'm happy. If there are any Canadian members, I'm sure you've seen it in the autotrader too.

I dont think there is a 10K difference here in the states, but a T/A is definitely a little more than a SS, and well more than a Z28 ... i know because i just bought my second T/A and searched for 8 months for it...
Then there are Firehawks and the 30th T/A... that's a whole different price-section

The TA has a slightly nicer interior IMHO. But I believe it also weighs a bit more as well. More sound deadening material I think. I do like the TA seats better than my Z but I don't think they are worth anywhere near 10k more.

Pontiac's always seem to cost a bit more than their sister Chevrolet cars/trucks/SUV's. My wife has a Torrent and in the same exact configuration it was about 1000 more than the Chevy Equinox which is the same body and I'm sure built on the same line.

Sorry to hijack but does anyone really know how many TA's vs Camaro's were made? I know there is no way to tell by VIN but around me I see a TON of TA's and not that many Z28's or SS's.

I believe the reason the T/A hold such a premium over the camaro is solely because of looks. MOst of the buyers of these cars are uneducated on them and dont realize that it is the exact same car as the Z28, all they know is its one bad *** lookin pontiac that runs like a bat outta hell.
AT least around here camaros seem to be very undesirable but the complete opposite for the T/As

Brand new, the TA's were more, but now the difference shouldn't be more than 1-2k.

T/A's cost like $5k more than Z28s here, I think its cuz T/A's are more rare here\

When I was looking for my LS1 in the Toronto area, Trans Am's and the like were out of the question. Many "uneducated" were pricing more mileage, older trans am cars than camaro 01-02 models. Perhaps its because its that the ones pricing them are idiots, or perhaps they are taking advantage of the lack of knowledge of those looking to purchase such cars. It's a trans am so it's a more "premium" car...

Reality is the opposite though, if you think the Generous general actually put in a significant amount of more thought and quality into the Trans Am to justify a $10k premium then you got a reality check coming for you the hard way. At most, it was $2-3 k difference in price when new, but not the ridiculous amount they ask used...

there were tens of thousands more camaros made than firebirds also. they are a lot rarer. i know a T/A is several thousand dollars more than the exact same featured camaro, and they should be. they are more stylized, rarer and have a superior interior. you get what you pay for. with a T/A, you get more.

Where do you get your information? "10's of thousands" more? Please quote your source.

Style is in the eye of the beholder is my feeling. The only part of your whole post I agree with is that the TA has a slightly nicer interior.

i agree, i think alot of it has to do with how the t/a looks.

people don't believe me? fine

http://www.f-bodyhideout.com/build_counts/2002.htm

in 2002, there were 41,777 camaros built for worldwide distribution.

http://www.f-bodyhideout.com/build_c...2_firebird.htm

in 2002, there were 30,690 firebirds built for worldwide distribution.

not extrapolate that. in 2002 alone there was a 10,000 car difference (i realize this takes into account all firebirds, not just LS1 V8's). over the 1998-2002 years, that results in several THOUSAND more camaros than firebirds in V8 models.

The T/A's cost a bit more cuz there is a little more to them. Better quality interior, more parts such as the ground effects/styling on the body, among other things. Add that to the fact that fewer of them were made than their Camaro counterparts and you have your price difference factors.

its so weird when i hear people talk about how T/A's interior's are superior. The seats look like crap to me. i dont like the headrests at all and the worst part is the ribbed sides the seats have. circular vents are gaudy as well as the HVAC controls. And i'm not biased because I own a camaro now. I'd own a T/A anyday. the interior on the camaro is leaps and bounds better than the firebirds. of course....JMHO.

as for the price difference between the T/A and the camaro...

Here in the midwest. SS's go for about 2-3k over T/A's and Z28's. T/A's usually go for 500-1000 bucks more than Z28's. WS6's go for about 500-1000 bucks over SS's.

2001 Z28 50,000 miles, good condition, 11,970
2001 SS 50,000 miles, good condition, 14,505
2001 T/A 50,000 miles, good condition, 13,400
2001 WS6 50,000 miles, good condition, 15,230

For one it was not "people" in was "person", me who asked. I just wanted your source as I have been told there was no way to know for sure how many of each were built Only the total number of fbody's as a whole. Don't get your panties in a bunch over it.

I still think " 10's of thousands" is a bit over stated.
