Default LS2 vs LS6?

Probably a stupid question, but I'm new at this... What's the difference between the LS2 and the LS6. All I know so far is that the throttle body in the LS2 is 90mm... Thanks in advance for the comments.

There are some big differences, such the LS2 is used in C6's, 05-06 GTO's, and Trailblazer SS.

The LS6 is soley used in the C5 Z06 and the CTS-V.

The LS6 is a 5.7 rated at 405hp after 01, while the LS2 is a 6.0L rated at 400. And I "think" they both put down similar numbers down to the wheels. And I have seen tthat the torque curve on the LS2 is pretty flat across the board.

The LS6 is a third gen. engine whereas the LS2 is a fourth gen. engine. Not too much difference just some things moved and changed around a bit. Both engines will run very close to each other.

i recall dyno graphs and the LS2 is a higher rated engine for power output. the LS6 may have 5 more peak hp, but the LS2 towards the middle of the powerband makes an entire 30hp more than the LS6. while the peak hp rating is slightly less, the overall hp curve area for an LS2 motor is significantly higher. therefore, if you switched an LS6 car over to an LS2, you'd most likely pick up some time in your quarter mile (how much is you and my best guess).

i wish i had proof of these graphs. you'll just have to trust me on this one

LS2 engine Has a 4.000 bore where as the LS6 has a 3.898 bore. The heads are identical except the LS6 has sodium filled valves

if i am not mistaken a c5 z06 and a c6 run pretty similar times in the 1/4, and put down similar numbers on the dyno. the motors are different, but performance is similar. one thing to note is that the ls6 is pretty much top-of-the-line 3rd gen, while the ls2 is kinda the standard mid-range 4th gen motor like the ls1 was.

different drivers, anything possible. plus z06's are lighter and have better suspension. bad comparison.

It is not even remotely the same motor no matter what anyone says.

Different sized cam, different block, ect, ect, ect.

Thanks for all of the replies and here's an additional stupid question: So would a LS2 intake bolt up to my LS1?

Yeah but an LS6 intake manifold will yield better results.

Everytime I see that graph from gm, it makes me remember how underrated the LS6 is. LS2 is also throttle by wire instead of cable.

As is the LS6 vette and any LS1 vette for that reason. That graph comparison looks awfully wrong, unless I'm reading it wrong, the LS6/LS2 dynod 400 stock? Obviously its crank hp?

yea thanks thrust, that's somewhat the graph i saw. like i was saying, the LS2 may have a few less peak hp but the overall curve area is much greater. as for torque forget about it!

LS2 > LS6

yes, it's crank. there is no mention of WHP anywhere on the graph. in fact, it's called an "ENGINE POWER" graph.

Okay, what I'm not really getting is that an LS2 intake and throttle body have 90mm openings and the LS6's openings are not that big... So (I know this can't be right) would that be anything similar to the FAST 90/90 setup? Or is the FAST setup ported moreso, or am I missing something obvious??? Thanks in advance for your patience.

I guess I am faster then an LS6 now.

I put down 350rwhp with bolt-ons and an 05 LS2 GTO put down 344rwhp with exhaust and diablo tuner.
