Default Which Gas?

If this is in the wrong thread, I'm sorry. I'm new here. On to the question. I just picked up a 99 Z28. Of course it has the LS1. What are you supposed to run for gas in this engine? I assume premium (~92 octane here) but most of it around here is labled "non-oxygenated- for collecter vehicles, boats". is this what I should run or should I drop down to super (~90 octane). thanks for the help. sorry so long.

Cliffs notes:
what octane gas? premium says "non-oxygenated"? HELP.

The best place to look would be the owner's manual if your car came with one.

You should run 93 or 91 depending on what area you live in. (Some states don't have 93.)

I did some reading up on that non-oxygenated gasoline, and it looks like that is basically "normal" gasonline. Oxygenated gas is what they're starting to use in california and big cities, it burns a little cleaner but supposedly makes your A/F ratio a little leaner. So it looks like the non-oxygenated would be better to run cause it wouldn't lean out your A/F.

I'm running 93 in my car, but my compression is around 11.1 or so. I don't think I ever ran anything less than that before the modding though either.

an LS1 with stock compression requires 91 octane. due to your ECU's fuel tables, it will run poorly/lose power if you put less than 91 octane. however, it will NOT GAIN POWER or run any better OR GAIN FUEL ECONOMY if you put in anything above 91 - THIS IS NOT DEBATABLE, it's science. anything else is a waste of money (unless your car pings on 91 for some reason).

octane is not a power adder. it is a detonation supressor. use 91, it's all it needs. anything else is a waste of money.
