Default Traction

I've got an 02 z28(5.7 a4) with bolt-ons. CAI, lid, magnaflow catback, race headers, ORY. vigilante 2800, ported tb, tune, 3.73s,160 stat, granatelli fuel pump,!EGR, !AIR, !CATS. With regular radials, If I slam on the gas, will I have any traction. Drag radials don't have enough grip on wet surfaces for everyday driving. What can I do for better traction? P.S. I don't have traction control

What size tires are you running and have you done any suspension work?

Thats where I would start if I were you.

Look into doing some suspension work. That should help some, then get rid of the 245's and look for something a little bigger.

I run 275/40/R17's and I have some traction issues, but if I pedal it, I can hook decently. Also depends on what air pressure you keep your tires at. When I go on roadtrips, I'm between 30-35, but when I'm playing around on the street, I keep em between 22-25.

Will I have to get new rims, or will 275s fit on my stock rims? What kind of suspension work are we talking here? What's the cost+ install?

I would start with maybe looking for some subframe connectors. Costs can change depending on where you're from and if you buy new or used. Install is the same, some of the stuff you can do by yourself, depending on your knowledge.

Check out some of the stickies in the other forums. There are tons of threads that can tell you better than I can.

And I'm sure you wouldnt have any problem finding some tires a little bigger for 16 inch rims.

don't have enough grip for everyday driving? DON"T SLAM ON THE GAS. I drive my stockish m6 ss year r9ound..in snow and everything..on ultra high performance summer tires. up hills and down hills..ect. now if your talking about track driving....just get some slicks and be done with it, but you could break your rear. also..traction control is for the old ladies that don't know what the car can do...learn how to handle your car...traction control isn't needed..i always have mine off.

BMR sub frames and lower control arms... i think those would make a world of difference for you... but ultimately it comes down to the tire...

lower control arms w/relocation brackets should help. but with a stall youll definately need some tire. there are plenty of guys running the nitto drag tire everyday and i even used to run the bfg drag tire daily. good luck trying to get traction with a non drag street tire.

why do you say drag radials dont grip well enough in the rain? ive run 245, 275, and 315 drag radials from Nitto and BFG, and ive never had any issues with rain... they hooked up about as well as any street tire ive put on until they got good and bald, but im not one to race in bad weather anyways

A 255/50 16 (in a DR or street tire) is the biggest you could/would fit on the 16x8 stockers.

i have 270/40/R17's on Z06 rims. i have traction out the *** (auto w/2.73's). i have too much traction. i can't chirp the 1-2 shift. big heavy Z06 rims give you killer grip/handling. they're a suspension mod in themselves.

That is like saying "I'm so hungry, but I just don't like food..."

If you want traction, you're going to need drag radials. Nittos are fine in the rain, BFG and M/T DRs are risking it.

Get a daily driver, and get a set of drag radials. End of story.
