Question which year is the best?

my question is which year should i get i know it has to be from 98-02 for the ls1. i know the 98,01,02 have 28# injectors and 99,00 have 26#. i know in 01-02 they have the ls6 intake. is there any year that is better for the cash? im going to replace the intake eventually anyways once i bulid up the motor a little more. is the pcm any different between the years? i figure i cn spend 3g's less on a 98 over a 02 or better. which will ge tme equal and better performance.

01 ideally. They also don't have EGR. But if you plan on building it up, it doesn't really matter much in the end.

All years of LS1s suck equally. Don't even bother buying one. Get a Mustang.

As posted above, this will help you make your decision: https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....80&postcount=2

Only thing that seems to be missing from that list is that '98-'00 A4 cars had a stronger stock flexplate, and a better (interior) rearview mirror.

Do you have pics of that rearview mirror?
How is it better?

Just purchase the cleanest car with the fewest miles on it.

i bought an '01 and have zero regrets. the '01-'02 are hands down the best from the factory, but you'll pay less for an '01 making it IMHO the best deal. it's nice having an LS6 intake and 28# injectors stock, plus no EGR.

i paid $14,600 for my '01 formula w/24.9k miles PLUS i got $1,100 more for my trade then it was worth making my car $10,500. i couldn't say no. every single available option except leather, including the SLP package. keep your eye out and DON'T jump on the first thing you see. my car was worth 2 grand more on KBB then i paid from a DEALERSHIP, and that's without the Z06 rims and the SLP package already on it, plus a $600 set of new 275/40/17 tires PLUS the extra $1,100 for my car over KBB trade in value. all in all i stole my car. you can do the same if you look hard enough and are willing to drive to find a deal. the round trip to get my car was 250+ miles but it was worth it!!!!

don't get me wrong, if two of the exact same cars were the exact same mileage, price, color and everything, just one was an '01 and the other an '02 i'd take the '02, but you can't really go wrong with any LS1 car.

bwaaa hahahaha, Handsome B. Wonderful. i know it's but i had to comment on this one!

Homer: Your honor? I'd like to sue the producers of "Police Cops"
for twenty million dollars for improper use of my name.
Judge: Court finds in favor of "Police Cops". Next case.
Homer: [shuffles papers] Then I'd like to legally change my name!
Judge: What name would you prefer?
Homer: Any of these will be fine.
Judge: Hmm. "Hercules Rockefeller". "Rembrandt Q. Einstein".
"Handsome B. Wonderful". Huh, I'm going to give you the only
name you spelt correctly. From this day forward, your name
shall be ...
[cut to a shot of Lisa, reading from a sheet of paper on the
Simpsons' couch]
Lisa: "Max Power"?
Homer: Dynamic, isn't it?
Bart: I love it, Max.
Marge: You changed your name without consulting me?
Homer: That's the way Max Power is, Marge. Decisive.
Uncompromising! And rude!

my personal favorite quote had to be:

Trent: [walking up] The man knows what he likes.
Homer: Just taking care of business.
Trent: If you don't, who will, huh? Trent Steele.
Homer: Homer Si ... uh, Max Power.
Trent: Oh, hey! Great name!
Homer: Yeah, isn't it? I got it off a hair dryer.

IMHO the differences are so minor that you are best off just buying the cleanest car you can afford regardless of the year. I dislike the 98's because the blocks in those years could be minimally bored out, but that not a huge deal.

i believe this was the 1997 LS1 engine found in corvettes. i think this was corrected by 1998. i haven't heard anyone complain about this in an f-body. i could be wrong though.

there could be tuning issues, but i'm not 100% sure. i know for a while back you could only tune the '99-'02 cars. try asking around in the PCM forum. they know a lot about this stuff. i'm clueless about tuning, i just know the '98 cars had some problems a while back.
