it all depends on your area with emissions. If they have any type of tail pipe testing..your gonna have trouble. If they just check to see if you have cats then your good to go. I hope you have a ludriciously amount of money. Built eeing, tt kit, rear, tranny, clutch..ect. not to mention all of the labor. good luck.

Most states that have state inspections have moved to OBD2 tests, so you'll need to have a factory computer that can set and pass readiness codes, not to mention a car will not pass if it has any trouble codes commanding the check engine light on. Also most state inspections involve a visual check for all emissions parts that came on the vehicle from the factory, i.e. secondary air, all o2 sensors, cats, egr, etc. Or just find a state inspection place that will inspect it with the six pack in the passenger seat.

I know of quite a few people who drive street cars here in TX that don't get in trouble for a cage. It's safety equipment for pete's sake. Just don't do anything to **** off the cop in the first place and you'l be okay.
I don't think there's a HP limit for street cars either. Just do what you want with the car, but don't be an idiot and screw around with the car in public (especially around other civilians/bystanders).

BTW, I've never heard of a HP limit. I think its mainly just the factory safety equipment, emmissions junk, lights and turn signals. I think there is also some states that enforce cracked windshield regulations. Best bet would probably call the local authorities and ask.
Good luck with your project!

Put foam cage wrap on the cage near your head. You shouldn't have any problems. There is no 'hp limit'. You could have a 10,000hp car if you want, as long as it doesn't break any safety or emissions laws.

the question is.. how much are you willing to spend.. 20g+? built motor stroked and forged 8k at least for a 400+cu in. 8k on a twin turbo kit, at least... 2k + rear. 3k+ tranny more if its stick.. suspension wheels tires 2.5k+.. it would be cheaper for forged iron 408 and some nitrous but it would be tough to reach that goal unless youre using over a 300 shot.. go ask some guys in the turbo sections what there setups cost.. see if you can find a guy with a maple red metallic trans am conv. non ram air.. really nice car..
