yeah my car, is never gonna see the track. its all street. i can see most of my racing on the highway, or at a stoplight and such. i also heard from a roll someone said it doesnt matter if you have 4.10 vs. 3.73. but i heard from a dig it matters. so my 2.73 can hang with the bigger gears from a roll, but suck from a dig correct?

From a slow roll you might still be at a slight disadvantage. But from anything 35+ I would say you are correct and would hang with the taller gears. And like 300bhp/ton pointed out earlier in this thread , if the race goes on long enough the advantage becomes yours because of how long you can hold third gear. But I wouldn't race to those speeds unless you like graveyards or jail cells

Suck from a dig might be a bit harsh. Lets rephrase to less effective. But a 3500 stall will more then fix that

i did a little research and i'm guessing it's "Torque Management" which comes with an ls1 edit? based on what i've read i can still get great results from my car w/ out it....am i right or totally off base?

You are right on base. TM = torque management. 01 & 02 models often times require the deletion of torque management to keep the SES light from continually popping on. You can use LS1 edit to turn off TM and most people feel it's a must do after any 3000+ stall goes in.

But in all fairness I have to mention that by removing TM you do put a little more stress on the 4L60E. But the payoff off is generally considered well worth it. I had torque management deleted and the line preasure raised a little when my converter went in and I couldn't be happier. The shifts are fast & firm, I never throw an SES code and I move pretty good down the track for my mods.

You can do a search in the automatic section using key words "torque management" and I'm sure a lot of threads will pop up offering good info.

Good luck.

I had a 95 Z28 LT1 before I got this 99 Z28, It was A4 2.73 same as now.

I went 3.42's on the LT1 and what a diiference no flat spots well worth doing. I dropped .3 of a second in the 1/4 mile. Then I changed to 3.73's hardly felt any different than the 3.42's

Now Although I still have a set of 3.73's sat in my garage, I went with a stall on this car although it dropped me 1/2 a second in the 1/4 mile but the car feels very loose now driving on the street. I didn't plan to do the stall but I was offered a secondhand TCI for £150 ($270)

I can't knock the 1/2 second drop for putting the stall but I still prefer how Tight and more responsive the car felt on the street with the stock converter in there.

So I would say if your not going to the track go for the gears 3.42's felt great on the LT1! IMO my 2 cents worth

2.73 gears don't seem to spin much off the line. 2.0 is easy to get if your not spining.

so much hate on 2.73's. i have no problems with mine. i'd rather have 3.08's though since mileage should be better with them, but that's just me.

i ran a 2.0 60' with ice cold street tires. i ran a 13.60 with just a lid/catback in the middle of the summer on ICE COLD tires. i didn't do a burnout since the tires were new, so if i can cut a 2.0 60' on stone cold street tires...

so are the 2.73's really weak off the line? but ive heard from lots of people say that the 2.73 eventually arent that bad when u dump a stall too.

Default 2.73

Not really, I run consistant 1.9's 60ft times on street tires.

If I change to DR's that could come down to 1.6's or lower!

Th stall makes a lot of difference with DR's to the 60ft time, and that's where the fast e/t's are won and lost.

Your right most of the reports of the our 10 bolt axles being week come from M6 guys as when they dump the clutch with 3.42's or 4.10's the axle takes it big time.

You don't tend to here of so much grief from the A4 boys until they start running 11' and 10's

I leaving my 2.73's in and going for 11's next year! oops!

Well.... With my 3.23's I can stomp it and spin through 3rd and I can also bury the speedometer to 155 with a couple thousand rpm left in fourth so my vote goes to 3.42's or 3.55's since I don't care for driving 150+ on the street. I just did that once to see how fast it could get up to and it still had more just couldn't see past 155mph on the stock speedo.
