Talked to my engine builder last night about oil last night , told him I had a piston slap issue. Told him I run M1 0-40 in it. Told me to try 15-40. The motor only has 25k on it.

to many people are worried about ONE thing.....the type of oil they run, while this is very important....(cant throw the watery **** in there and expect it to last)....there are other MORE important things people dont worry about as much and it bites them in the ***......first of all...the 98's and 99's have beyond crappy pumps, also running it with low psi or low amount of oil is sucidal....those people out there who say "i run 20 psi on a stock pump at wot" are dumbasses....you might be able to run a lower psi on a ported ls6 or ls2 pump....but not on a stock ls1...that means that ***** going out and your bottom end is suffering for it......take it from someone who has spun bearing, spent the time and money to rebuild the motor, and has learned from the best.....

What are you talking about? Dude, your car must be really rare

Seriously, its normal, if you DIDNT have piston slap you may have a problem, it slaps until the piston expands to fill the bore. If it didnt, what would happen when it expanded...

Some cars slap worse than others, as long as it goes away when she warms up dont worry about it. My friends car slapped BAD, at 64K miles he did heads, the bores looked GREAT! Crosshash and all, not a problem.

Synthetic provides a whole range of benefits over conventional oil, anyone who argues otherwise is misinformed. Synthetic has better lubricating properties, meaning less friction in the motor as well as less wear. It also has more additives, lasts longer, and itsn't affected by heat as much as regular oil. If you ran 2 engines to 200K miles, one with synthetic oil and one with dino oil, and tore them down at the end, the one with synthetic would have considerably less internal wear, deposits, and it would also be much cleaner. Those are substantial benefits, not just to aide in "economy".

Many manufacturers list synthetic oil only because they don't want people putting garbage WalMart oil in their precision machined, close tolerance engines and then having to pay for warranty repairs. Performance vehicles are meant to be driven hard, thats why you need a high performance oil, which is why they require synthetic. It just makes sense, some people are just too ignorant and stubborn to accept that.
Been there, done that, with many motors. (or rather Dad did) He used to escort oversized loads and tore down thje motors in his cars at teh end of their lives. Shell Rotella 15-40T was the winner in cleanlyness and Quakerstate the far and away crappiest. Amsoil and Mobile 1 looked about the same as the Rotella motors, so he just used Rotella, cheaper. (Motors involved were 460's, thjen 302s, and then 4.6L's).

Either it slaps...or it doesnt, right guys?
