Didit 10 of the VIN would be an "X" if its a 99. The build date for a 99 will usually be 7/98 or newer. a 6/98 could be possibe I guess but thats when the model year @ the plants switch over

You think GM employee's go home for christmas and come back to work January 2nd working on new cars? How the hell do you think GM is going to supply a full year of cars by the time spring hits? Ooohhh.. maybe they start working on it after all the PREVIOUS models have been shipped??
and your quote was "If you have a 99, then you have a 99 computer. they did not switch it over mid year. "

Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! door that says 10/98 and computer that is 99 ? If THAT isnt a "mid year switch over", what the FULCK is??? You going to tell me that because it wasnt "june", its not mid year???? If it was made in 98, it should be a 98 all the way. I THINK GM is smart enough to say "were gonna build 100 bodys for the 1998 year and 100 engine for the 1998 year and make it work. If they are gonna make them 99's, then for christ sake, make the damn door/engine sticker AND compter a fulckin 99, or, you gonna argue with that too?

And why you busting on me? I was talking to cjmatt , is he your buddy or something?

what you seem to not be able to understand is that the 99 model year does not coincide with the 99 calendar year. if you goto the dealership right now im willing to bet that there will be 2007's on the lot...these are not cars from the future

Wow, you really need to get a clue or start taking some serious paranoid preventing medication. Since the beginning, when Henry Ford started building cars, they have started building (for your example) 1999 model year cars since about June 1998. This is so that people get a chance to purchase the new models right at Jan 1, 1999 ... and not have to wait until June 1 1999. Sometimes car companies will actually build sooner, like in 2001. The 2001 Model year ran from about August 2000 until May 2001, this was to have time to build the large demand for the 2002 35th Annv. Limited Editions. The 2002 model was built from (ready for this) June 2001 until August 2002. So calm down and take a look at the VIN, federal regulations madate that all new model year cars (1999) have indentification labelling them as such to protect consumers from fraud. Someone already gave you the info to find a 1999 model year, use it!

No, all you badgerers dont seem to understand is that it is not always apples are apples and oranges are oranges! I totally understand the "concept", but, who is to say what line, what car manufactuer sliped in an odd ball part? If I have a door sticker of 98 and a engine sticker of 99, it would be confusing for the average person. Now, like I said, and read my lips... "I totaly understand the "concept". I am trying to find out (I have the answer now) and make sure I do not buy a car that has an older peice of "x" (excuse the pun) slipped in, thus rendering me screwed again. I will say it again, if it is to be a 99, and I do not care if they actually made it when henery ford was still around, it should be noted EVERYWHERE as a 99, and, maybe have the "secret" code in the vin, NOT on the sticker. So, again, 98/99 half breed, me not paranoid, just making sure I do not make a wrong move. Whats so wrong with being cautious? I already made a 98/99 mistake because of this switch over crap not known to me and not being thurough, cant I make sure 100% this time I do not do it again? jeeeezuz!

A switch that was made during the run of the 98 models, between 6/97 and 6/98

YES!! YOU GOT IT!!! GOOD JOB!! June builds are usually the END of the model year! Not the middle.

No, it has the build date, which was October 1998, which is a 99 model year.

They did make the same engines/bodies/ecm's for ALL the 98's, and then switched for ALL the 99's, so yeah I guess I am.

I'm busting on you because you quoted my correct information as false information and got all sarcastic about it. I'M SORRY YOU CANNOT GRASP the fact that a car built in 10/98 is a 1999 model, and that there were NO mid year computer switchovers for the LS1's.

You must be a very average person then, 'cuz you are WAY beyond confused about this.

Nothing, but you got your answers and still don't believe anything. You're crossing the line between cautious and paranoid.

10th Digit of the VIN..

W=1998
X= 1999
Y= 2000

My Formula was built 6/98. Yet the VIN shows the letter "X" therefore it is a 1998. also, the CARB tag in the bay shall coincide with the model year that it is made in. Mine says 1998. How about we all grow up and consider the topic done. Your car is whatever the VIN says. as long as its not all original??

Yea, I got that, thanks cabech984, I appreciate it. I just wanted to make sure the parts were 99 also and not harboring some hidden strangeness.

Your point that you're paranoid someone on the assembly line grabbed the wrong ECM for your 99? Your point that you thought your build date of 10/98 meant it was a 98 model? Your point that you think there was some kind of mid year change-over on parts?

I'm not sure which point you're talking about, could you elaborate?
