<<--- Former mustang guy here. Alot of the cobra guys end up switching out their IRS suspension with a solid read end due to the fact that IRS usually doesnt hold up under all the HP.

Another mod I am starting to notice w/ the cobra guys is that for drag racing alot of them are starting to run an AODE trans...its built of course.

And 2v 4.6's dont hold a light to 4v 4.6's so I dont know where someone got that idea. The 2v are running 260hp out of the factory and a N/A 99-01 cobra and 03-04 Mach 1's are running 320hp out of the factory.

It costs more to make the 4v go faster but in the long haul WAY more HP. If youre dealing with a s/c cobra of some sort you can always do a pulley upgrade to them and run anywhere from 16-22 psi and that alone will boost the HP a ton.

I know this is going a little bit off topic, but how much to put an automatic transmission on the cobra? Depends on what I'll get if it doesn't cost me an arm, and a leg.

Honestly....I was afraid of the manual transmission till I was your age. You will fall in love with it after you learn it.

With supporting mods on a stock 2000 Z28 i got 137 hp @the wheels with the procharger.Dropped over a second off my 1/4 mile time also.

Also I was wondering would a shift kit for the A4 be worth it? Does it help acceleration at all?

you're better off with a fully built A4/a stall. a shift kit will take off .1 or less from your ET. it really doesn't make you go any faster. it makes the trans "feel" stronger for a more pleasurable driving experience and protects the clutches inside your tranny from being burnt since they're applied less while your foot is to the floor. any time taken off your ET is simply because it's shifting a little faster.

on a stock or bolt on LS1 a shift kit (Trans-go, the rest are crap) is a good addition along with a tranny cooler and a stall.

However if you plan on a cam (means higher rpms) or even a blower (a lot more HP) then a built tranny is really on the cards.

But who knows a stock tranny with the right additions may last several years, its impossible to tell.

$18,550 + 12,000 = $30550

$27-30K can buy you a baddass 03-04 Cobra with a KB blower making 580-630 RWHP. plus it's got a built-for-boost motor vs. an LS1 with high CR. and you've got a newer car, and Cobras always have higher resale values than Fbodies.
just spend about $200 to have it thoroughly inspected at a shop including compression and leakdown tests.

and supercharging a stock A4 is asking for it. how much are Art Carr built transmissions? $3-5k + install?

I would love to get a cobra, but I'm just not a fan of any manual transmission, only autos or sequentials shifters. So is there anyway to make a cobra an auto?

That's all you have? No rear end or anything?

because you didn't increase your shift points i've found that the stock 4L60E's biggest killer is high rpm's. keep the shift points stock, keep the 4L60E alive. it'll eventually break, but i've found that a cammed car with 6800 rpm shift points putting 50+rwhp less to the wheels will break the 4L60E sooner than a blown setup with stock shift points. if you had H/C and 7,000 rpm shift points, your 4L60E would have died after a week.
