Default Messed up hatch button?

Well I've owned my first LS1 for about a month now... and it had the problem when I bought it but i never really looked into it..
Whenever I go to pop the hatch using the button left of my steering wheel.. I have to hit it 5+ times for it to even open..

Sometimes it will work to where I press it once or twice and I go back there and it just opens, but sometimes I press it a few times, go back there and its popped, but I can't open it, so i have to walk back around and push the button again..

Anybody had this problem? or am I just stupid and doing it wrong..?

Before you try that you should unscrew the little rubber stoppers on the trunk hatch. Unscrew them a little and see if it opens for you. That worked for me.

Haha, yeah it must! Everytime I hit my button, it doesn't work...I have to go back and pull on it, then go back and hit the button again. I can't just stand there and hit the button a few times - that won't work. And as for the remote - the hatch button won't work on that at ALL.

I did the spring. It opens all the way on it's own practically.

Really? Man, I need to do this. Right now, I'm doing the "press it right as you pull up" method.

Yeah, that whipped my *** for 5 long years! You don't even need to take all that crap off to do it either. I just pulled the back part away and clipped it on there. took maybe 30 seconds.

Done... works great - and took all of 45 seconds to do it

Went down to Home Depot and bought a spring for like.. a dollar or so - slapped it on there.. and it opens easy as pie
