6 psi.....wooohooo, I'd like to see the internals of the motor after that! I am gonna do an oil change myself, but i am getting roughly the same deal on my 98. The lowest the psi will go to is 27 or so, and get a max of 50 or so at about 4-4500revs. Its running 0W40 and a fram filter, i already bought the smalley AC and got the GC0W30 ready to rock as well, do you guys think I'll see better psi?

On a side note, i got the TA out of storage last week(had been in since late Dec.), these cars NEVER cease to amaze me, it started as tho it had been off for maybe a few days! felt better than Xmas.

My friend has a 289 that idles at about 12 psi. It the clearances have opened up (it is a drag car, runs 11's NA at 2800ish# and ONLY sees WOT at the strip pretty much).

Motor is fine other than worn bearings. No spun bearings or messed up internals. 12 PSI idle seems to do ok with it.

My WS6 idles at 42psi with 0-30 GC and anything under 39-40 I would **** a brick over. Standard size WIX filter. ANY DRAMATIC CHANGE IN PRESSURE FOR NO REASON IS BAD.

Is that ALL you'd **** a brick over

JK... but look at CALL911, he got I dont know how much extra PSI just changing to a decent filter and changing the oil. Put the new **** on and see what happens.

I don't even think twice when mine drops to 30-35psi under hot idle. All my stock idle speed A4 LS1s have done it. No worries here.

I doubt 0W30 will give you more psi than 0W40. Assuming the 0W40 you were using was M1, it's a slightly thicker oil when new than GC 0W30.

lol, yeah im hopin so lastcall, im gonna be a cool guy, drain the winter oil(GC 0w30) out of the TA and slap it into the Camaro(has 2 starts on it and maybe 5kms) and put the new **** into the TA....lol, my new recycling program I figure a 30w vs 40 might help out a bit....maybe, as well as a decent filter. And yeah it is M1 thats in there now

You also idle at like 600 while my car idles at 750.

I idle at 550rpm (in gear).

You idle at 800rpm (stock).

750 is what it normally does by stock tach which well could be off 50

I gained 10-15 at warm idle, and about 20+ at WOT, just by changing to a AC Delco filter over a Fram, and changing the oil.

For what its worth, I had a weird oil pressure problem when I first got my car.

Like a few people in this thread, my oil pressure would get about 20-25psi at idle.

I proceeded to do the LS6 Intake Manifold swap. In this process, I broke my oil pressure sending unit.

I had a new oil pressure sending unit ordered for me from O'Reillys. I replaced the oil pressure sending unit...and guess what?

I hold more than 40psi at idle under any heat conditions. Always! My oil pressure is always great.

I attribute my weird pressure problem from a instantly failing oil pressure sending unit.

Go figure

Fram is a piece of crap. I would never run one. Good swap. Dad has almost ruined a motor back in the day with 1 and my mechanic was constantly blowing their guts out dirt-tracking until he switched to WIX, picked up hp, and stopped blowing cardboard through his engines.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of them either. The only thing good about them is the grip they offer for their filters, other than that, there is simply nothing good to say for the Frams.

Easy removal = K&N

Can't beat the welded nut on the bottom of the filter!!!
That nut alone is worth the price of the filter!

Only if you get it stoopid tight, Oil filters are hand-tighten only and then maybe 1/4 turn with the wrench. You should not need a nut on the bottom.

I always hand tighten mine, but during the coarse of driving the car for 3-4,000 miles it must tighten itself more because I almost always end up needing a oil filter remover to get it out.

That is true. You actually dont need a nut on the bottom.

It just makes life easier when it comes time to remove the oil filter. Therefore, I will continue uses the nut because that is what I want.

It does **** me off on when I go to change the oil in a newly aquired vehicle and the filter is on so tight you have to use the old "screwdriver method" just to remove it.

Only I change the oil in my vehicles...

Well....the results are in!.....changed the filter/oil to Delco/GC 0W30 and saw an increase of about 10psi at idle and about 2-5 psi higher across the board otherwise. Definately feels better and idle psi doesnt get much below 38/39 psi after being driven for an hour.....Im pretty happy with it!
