Default How strong is the OEM clutch?

Hello guys...

I was just wondering how much torque would this take up to on the stock clutch before you would have to replace it?.

What's the highest torque the stock clutch can take?

My goal is to have about 500-600 h/p and 500-600torque

What kind of clutch kit should i go with?.

the stock clutch dosnt hold much power a strong running stock motor can make a stock clutch slip if you mod much look into a clutch i like the spec stage 3 it will hold the power you are looking at

I had a SPEC stage 4 and it was toast after 9,000 miles. I wouldn't go with Spec anymore, but that is totally up to you! Mods in sig, just to give you an idea what fried it (ie not much).

you might want to look into a ls7 clutch, alot of guys are running those now over the spec clutchs and they dont have any problems....

they come in a car that makes over 500hp stock anyways....so trust me your 500hp ls1 wont break it

well, all i have is a cutout and tune, and I run consistent 13.3's on street tires, and my stock clutch sometimes won't grab all the way in first. I'm prolly gonna go with an ls7 clutch in a few months. I wouldn't mess with spec clutches IMHO.

Stock LS1 and ever LS6 clutch is junk IMO opinion.

I would get a RAM or SPEC, the clutch I have is fantastic(Spec 3) but it doesnt like to slip so its very notchy

ram powergrip hd or a spec3i is what I would recommend for that power level.

you can go anyway you'd like....but just like the marine said....the spec clutchs have had some problems

in the jacksonville area i know of 3 guys who have had the same spec clutch problems...pretty much just come apart...

i know 2 guys with ls7 clutchs and they have no problems....the only problem they say they have is that it feels soft....but it grabs

stock LS6 clutch said F. U. on a 6k dump on ET streets at the track with 408RWHP and 380 TQ. The clutch didn't like the 373HP and 360 TQ on sticky tires. When I dynoed the 408 HP, you could see the clutch slipping when the power was falling off was early on the graph.

Seems like Ls7 clutch would be the way to go, Any one know where to purchase that?.
GM dealer? But there must be places that sell it for cheaper right?.
B/c I am pretty sure the ls7 clutch must be cheaper than the spec 3+ or ram.
