is this true?
I was told that 2000 was the last year the trans am didn't have computer restrictions, that restricted the performance. is that true?
My mom has 1 2000 ws6, and before she bought it in 2003 she test drove alot of them. She test drove the 02 collectors and a few others from different years. her and my stepdad said they didn't impress them. Then they test drove this 2000, and they said it was everything they thought the t/a should be. I told her it may have a chip in it or some other type of mod.
So I was just wondering if anyone had an idea of why this would be.

Post pics/specs.
A FireHawk or C/E is not going to be any noticably quicker than a same year base TransAm, or WS6, or Formula. They all have the same ~345hp LS1, no matter what they are rated at.

i didnt think there would be a big difference in t/a's! i thought the t/a's came with 325hp or something like that, and the firehawk 345hp. but thanks for the info.

well i cant figure out how to post the pics, i click on the little mountain looking thing for pics but it says error! and as far as specs, i have no idea. my mom thinks its stock, but not sure. she knows its faster then any other stock one she drove. she drove the 01's and 02's and they didnt impress her really, but she said this 00 did. so i dont know! i know in 03 she bought it with like 20k miles on it for 18k. i offered her 18 for it in 05 and she had alot more miles on it, and she wouldnt budge!! of course i wouldnt sell either.

i just got off the phone with my mom about that car. she says its all stock, but she preffered it over the 02 because it responded better, sounded better, and just out performed the 02. but all cars even built the same one will always standout over the rest. so maybe she just got lucky with the 00 and maybe that was just a bad 02. who knows!

The '00 might not be stock, thus making it feel noticeably faster than the '02.

dude...youre being fed a load of crap. the 01-02's are quicker. they dyno better generally as well. theyre all the same, and this "restriction" humbo jumbo is garbage. theres no real difference, as stated, between a trans am, a ws6, or a firehawk, it wont be noticable.

It's entirely possibile that the '00 car is faster and feels faster. Since these cars are all used, there's no telling what might have been done to the '00. Even if you don't see a lid or headers/exhaust, or any other bolt-ons, there's stuff that might not be so visiable; like gears and tuning. Someone might have pulled the bolt-ons before the car was sold but left the custom tuning and gears because that's not nearly as easy to sell/swap as a lid or a catback.

01-02 ls1 Trans-ams and Camaros do use a smaller camshaft than 98-00 models. However, the 01-02 ls1 received the ls6 intake and are usually faster and dyno higher than their 98-00 counter-parts.I am pretty sure all m6 ls1's come with 3.42 gears in the rear. The gearing in the transmission would be the same also.It is a possiblity that the older model has a new clutch set that is engaging with more force and the one on the newer model was worn out.
