the car is bone stock. thanks guys for all of your input. i didn't really think that a tune for my t/a with just headers and exhaust would really help it. i figured you would have to start doing heads and cam before it would help to tune it.

headers 300
x pipe dumped 250 maybe cheaper from a local shop
ls6 intake 300
whisper lid 100
4.10 gears 150
underdrive pulley 100-150
(give or take)
My two cents is get the car to breathe good both in and out first .
When you decide to put a cam in you will be glad you done so .
Gears is the only thing listed you need someone that knows what they are doing . If you want to go fast for not a lot of money gears are the best bang for the buck .

If you have an auto then this is a no brainer.

3400-4000 stall, tranny cooler and shiftkit. With a $1200 budget this might limit your choices to TCI or Fuddle assuming you need to pay for installation. But it would still be the best money you ever spent

If you have a stick then I would go lid, LT's, cutout and 4.10 gears (if there was enough left over).

pacestter coated LTs, ory, cutout, (Approc $550), toss in some new ngk plugs and msd wires while doing the headers (approx $80), then go for an ls6 inatke manifold and port your stock throttlebody (approx $300-400), then get a 25% underdrive pulley ($250 or so) or some LCA's ($100 from UMI) and adjustable panhard rod ($100 UMI).

a tune on ANY car will help it.

my buddy made 23rwhp off of a lid and catback and tune on an otherwise bone stock car.

as far as mods go:

-lid
-LS6 intake w/ ported stock TB
-headers
-ORY with cutout
-TUNE

all that = game on!
