Default Help with Trouble on vacation

While driving to Hilton Head yesterday 750 miles into trip, we came to an accident and had to sit. car started to heat up so shut off as oil pressure dips to around 20 when real hot. when we started and had gone seveal miles water temp came down oil pressure still a little low but responsive to RPMs. car started to chug at speed got off exit car stalled getting to pumps ( 1/4 tank ). I let it cool a while it restarted filled up and no more trouble other than unusually warm and OP slightly lower than normal. Want to have it checked before return. What should I be watching for, I'm in a bad situation for a general problem. Car is 98 Formula A4 with 86K, GC 0-30 oil and Napa Gold filter, (level good). I'm having my SLP 160 thermo sent down(didn't get to put on before trip) going to have coolant flushed when Tstat changed. Dealer mentioned typical fuel pump problem? Also noticed when car on cruise it accelerated when you hit the brakes to cancel cruise. Any help or opinions would be a help. Thanks

I live in Bluffton, SC and my dad owns a shop in Hardeeville off of exit 5 if you dont want to go to the dealership, it's about 20 mins away from the Lowe's on 278. I'd change the fuel filter before I would throw down on a guess of a fuel pump. I'd do that and run some injector cleaner threw it. Do you have any mods done to the car?

98Camarod thanks for the reply. I don't have much in the way of mods it had a suncoast Ramair hood and airbox when I got it. I've put on a Magna Flow cat back, will have the SLP 160 put in today. Looking at Random Technology Catted y (that stock y pipe can't be good for flow) and a tune in the near future. Please give me a way to contact your dads shop in case this is bigger repair than I can afford at the dealer. I knew this site would find a way to help.

Thanks not to thrilled with the service managers interest in my troubles. I'm sure they will fix everything I mentioned but very little on their own diagnostic work.

well dealer unable to duplicate customer complaint. The report says fuel pump had 55Lbs pressure and good flow, changed fuel filter. Wanted $350 to change plugs and wires so that will wait until I get home and can do it my self. Everyone talks about the MSD wires does everyone use the flex boot or stock and do the stock ones come with the metal heat shield? I have stock manifolds on.

I'll let you know Saturday, drive home starts Friday hope to do all 800 miles. The temp is a little better will have computer tune done to lower fan temps. I still have a rough spot at idle, hope the plugs and wires will take care of that. 86k on what i believe to be the originals. Going to the ws6 store next to have wires waiting when i get home. Want to try the NGKs everyone else is running. What plugs do you run? Thanks for your help.

NGK TR55's if you are stock. They are cheap and proven to work without issues. It doesn't take long to do them, maybe 45 mins. If you can find them and wires at advance or napa I'd suggest doing it before you go. I changed mine when I did my header install right after I got the car and there were two original plugs and one original wire that was burnt through causing a slight misfire.

made it home ok. Got 25MPG very happy. I lost a clamp on my Magnaflow system around Pittsburgh, thought muffler burned in a little and was really liking it. Plugs not here yet will fix the clamp and get ready to do plugs. 98Camarod thanks for your help.

hey dude, glad yah made it home! Plugs and wires arent that bad at all, just be prepared to do a few from under the car, its abit easier. You will know exactly which ones when you get to them.

No problem. And the easiest way to do the plugs is to take off all the coils on the passenger side. I was able to do all the plugs from the top and I have large arms and hands. I'm glad you made it home ok. If you would have left tomorrow I could have helped you change them today.

still no wires in the mail. the WS6 store sent them right out but haven't moved past Illinios. So went and got another set of TR 55's at Advance Auto and will keep the other set on the shelf I'll wait til the wires come before I can see the improvement. got the drivers side done today in about 40 minutes off and on between fixing tractor and mowing grass. Thanks for the offer I think thats what the wife was afraid of that I'd find someone to help while on vacation. I'd rather work on the car than sit by the pool and bake (but the daiquiris were good)

Thats the place. The place you see on TV is about 2 miles from my house, yet I've never been there. This is a sleepy little town except for that week, then it's like the children of the corn. People come out of the woods in every direction to see that rodent. If you ever want to see the festivities come on up let me know.
