Default The best Spark Plugs for me

Question:

I have never replaced the spark plugs on my trans am. The car just came out of storage and I am thinking it is about time to do it. The car is basically stock, with 36k on it. I do not want to continuously replace the spark plugs. I am thinking about the NGK TR55's...but what about platinum or iridiums? I have heard some negative things about these plugs, but is there really a down side for a mostly stock car that will see an occasional race?

The NGK TR55s should work fine for a stock car as long as your not planning to add nitrous, a lot of people on here run them with no problems. You could go with the platinum or iridiums if you want to spend the extra $$$, they should last longer.

I'd go with NGK Iridiums. No probs here at all, and she idles a lot smoother. But then again i slapped MSD's 8.5mm at the same time i changed the plugs.

I like TR6s now cause i got 5.3L heads and higher compression with my Torquer cam.

TR55's are good for N/A stock(no gas).

Anything else use a TR6 and they even have others(cant think of the name) that have the option of having a projected tip or a non projected tip.

Really all depends on your setup and what your planning on doing.

Their factory pre-gapped. Just slap 'em in.

I would recommend NGK TR55s gapped at .055 for your application.

Why shouldn't I bother with the iridiums? I really don't want to be changing my plugs seasonally.

TR55's. The TR55 IX (irridium) plugs are great too.

Can you get that passenger side bank done without removing AC lines?

Yes. Just unbolt the AIR tube from the exhaust manifold to get it out of the way.

I use NGK Iridiums with MSD coil packs and 8.5 wires, the motor is stock for now. The NGK Iridiums are pre gapped like Kage said so it is kind of like plug and play.

Go with the AC Delco stock plugs. They are iridium tipped, gapped at .040, do not re-gap them. You can't go wrong with them and they will last, even under hard driving. I just put them in my LS1 with MSD wires. If installing aftermarket wires, leave the metal heat shields off or else there will be too much tension on the wires and they may pop off. MSD's boots are a little longer which is why the wires is stretched a little with the heat shield on. Don't need the heat shield with MSD's anyway.
