Nope...just pull the e-brake handle as straight up as you can, and you'll be able to pull the center console up over it.

When you think you've pulled it all the way, it can probably go further Definitely requires some "finessing" of the console, even when the ebrake is pulled all the way up. Your console will probably take a hit.

EDIT: Try lifting from the back of the console, while slightly pulling it towards the rear of the car.

It's a little tougher if the car is an A4 but it can still be done

Take the shift **** off. No need to undo the entire shifter.

ddcook07 - Remove the A4 shift handle - just pull the staple out in front of the shifter handle and pull straight up. Easier if you turn the key on and put it in first gear.

snapped mine too. then I read on a site a few weeks later that if you leave the e-brake down there is some type of lever you can release the tention on and you can pull the e-brake straight up . wish I had .

I can get my e-brake more than high enough without snapping anything. Like was said earlier, pull back a little and lift from the back. It will help get the console over the e-brake sooner. You definitely have to use finesse though. No sense in rushing it and breaking something.

There is a detent in the e brake. You just release it with a screwdriver and you can pull all the way up on the handle without breaking anything. Look at the shifter install write up on install university and it shows how to do it.
