Default Oil Pressure!!! WAY TOO HIGH!!!

After changing my water pump and thermostat earlier, (Thanks for the help!!) my engine is showing 60 psi when at idle and when at 2500-3000 rpms its near 80 (approx. 77psi). This in my book seems really really high because before this it was running at around 40 at idle and around sixty when WOT. I just replaced my oil and filter with no luck. The oil was changed around 3 or 4 thousand miles ago and when I changed the oil it was very dark. I use mobil one 5-30. My car just recently got very hot when the waterpump and thermostat went (near 260 degrees) and was wondering if this could be the culpret? Any comments or recommendations on what is wrong and what I should do about this problem would be awesome.

thanks a lot again guys,

Matt

I dont see how changing the waterpump would affect your oil pressure.

I agree, the only thing I could see is it getting lower from overheating.

my reads low but i just changed oil to SYN MOBIL 1 5w30 and ACDELCO filter. What could cause my oil to be low? Bad sending unit also?

Thinner oil will have lower oil pressure.
