Default Car shaking at idle

Just picked up my 2001 firebird formula last friday. I noticed that when I am at a stoplight, the car will give a noticable shake at idle. Is this normal because of the V8, or does this need to be looked at? Did a search and could not find the answer to it.

Where did you buy the car from? It probably has an aftermarket cam in it. You need to find the previous owner and ask him/her what the mods were.

Based on your question "is that because it has a V8 in it", i'm guessing this is your first 8 cylinder car. So yeah it probably shakes a bit more than whatever you had before. All of our cars rattle and shake to some degree, especially the M6 guys.

Also make sure the o2 sensors are good. If the are out or close to it they can cause a rough idle, and a noticeable decrease in mileage, and I dont think anybody needs that last one nowadays.

Couldnt it also be the mounts? Motor/Tanny?

Just a thought.

Thanks for the reply. I bought the car from carmax. It had 29000 miles on it. As far as modifications go, it has the SLP lid and strut tower brace on it. These modifications were sold with the car.

I'd find someone in your area who has an f-car with a V8 and have then drive it and see what they think. No sense diagnosing what is wrong, if there is nothing wrong. With my stock cam my car would shake a little bit, not much though.
