Default Window Fun!

Alright, I am in desperate need of working windows since I have a black ss with black interior in Alabama with no AC compressor.

About two weeks ago my driver's-side window started popping and lurching as it ascended. It also made my whole door panel push out with each pop but so long as it works who cares? Well, I think I have rolled it up for the last time as it now seems to pop with every attempt to grasp and raise. It barely made it so I have to fix it.

Is there any braces inside that would cause it to come out of alignment and eventually cause this problem?

I work two jobs so I haven't had a spare minute to look at it and when I do it would be nice to already have an idea of where to look.

The motor seems alright but it can still freely turn in the upward direction even when the window is at it's highest point with the addition of the pops earlier described.

Any help would be appreciated.

if you do a little searching youll find tons of threads on windows, find the shoebox guide to replacing them. Its pretty easy an it will save you ALOT of money, go get a new motor from AZ for 50 bucks use the shoebox guide and give it a shot.

Thanks, I still doubt it's the motor, but I know when I looked up the motor at work (O'reilly's) it said it came with a gear, so I might just replace the whole assembly anyway.

You may need a new motor and add a brace to the door where the motor bracket attaches. Here is the thread where I talk about a brace I made:

It definitely seems like I'll need some sort of bracing. I got inside it last night because it was my half day off and found that it's not the original motor.

The holes were already drilled, which was a plus although I have to say I'm dissapointed because that means that it had to be replaced within the first 24000 miles. Also this job appears to be what caused the failure since one of the bolts were missing. Although I didn't find the bolt, I've been in the door before and I vaguely remember finding a bolt and putting it in one of my toolboxes. Either way it was $.89 for a whole bag of replacements.

I replaced the bolt and things improved, bot only slightly. I ran out of daylight before I was able to inspect the motor and gear. I'm willing to bet that they gear is chewed fron being able to flex off track and skip. I might as well just replace the whole motor as well.

I'll do that and then see if it still needs a brace like you mentioned.

Thanks for your help!
