2000 SS at Dealership - Worth it?

Talk them down.
Do not be afraid to walk away.
It is an ~8 year old car. It is not basically new. It was probably built in the '90s.
Be sure to run a Carfax before going in. You never know what you might find. It's well worth the $30.
Don't be afraid to walk away if they won't give it to you for what you want.
Never pay full asking price for a used car from a dealer. Or from any car lot, for that matter.
I bet they will go lower than $18.5k. That is still a bit of money.

Well the also have a 2002 WS6 there with 17k on it. They want 23k for that car. The douche bag of a salesman I talked to said they have been offered 21k several times and turned it down. The car has sat there all summer. They must be really proud of that one. That kind makes me wonder if they will budge on the SS price very much. We will see. I am stopping by later this evening.

Ok guys I just got back from the dealer. He said he would give me 8500 for trade in on my car (99 Z28 with 62k on it). First he said we could do it for 11k. I said I wanted to keep it around 10k after trading my car in. He came back with 10.3k. I said I needed to think it over and get back to him. I am going to go back in tomorrow sometime and talk to him again. What do you think about it?

I need to sit down and see if I can afford it for sure. Right now I would have no problem. I have a long term sub position at a high school in my home town and am getting paid about $115 a day. I have this position until November 5th. Then I should be able to get sub positions for at least 4 days out of the week. I am also coaching basketball so that is another 2k I will get this winter. I should be able to afford though. I have no rent (live at home ), parents still pay car insurance too. I will have student loans to start paying off though but that will only be $130 a month or so. We will see.

I think you should do it. I traded my 96Z with 117+ on the clock for 4250 to the dealer for a 00 SS priced at 16,995 (talked down to 16,500. They would not go lower because of the amount of interest they had on it) with 38K on the clock (and its a rare combination)
White, SS, Ttops, M6 (there were less than 400 with this combo in 2000)

If only that car wasnt 650 miles away. It might be more rare than yours LS1tones, it has a cassette player, haha. Anyway, I am putting a deposit down on the red one tomorrow. Need to get things worked out with the loan and I have someone interested in my 99 Z locally. We will see what happens. Everything has been going my way so far which worries me. Something bad is bound to happen, haha. Knock on wood. Wish me luck everyone.

Damn i got mine for $12,000 w/ 40K on it this past january. Full options minus 1LE.
Is it worth it to you? That's the question. If you feel you can't find a cleaner car/better deal than i'd say go for it. A friend of mine happened to chance upon the SS and couldn't get apporved for it so i jumped on it. Sad to see my Z-28 go, but it was toooooooo good a deal to pass on.

BTW - We just got a 02 SS for 12K. Dealer had it marked for 19,999

Mine was marked for $16,900. If you work for it, you can get em down.
I walked out when they wouldn't lower the price or payments. Finally came to a deal when they gave me $9500 for my Z and dropped the price to $12K. I also put in a call to the general manager of Power (who my pop's worked for for 8yrs) Connections help too.

I just read the stipulations on the LTV thing again. Since I would only be borrowing up to 12k or so (probably not even that much) I should be ok correct? Remember I am trading my car in. I will not need to borrow anywhere near the asking price of the car. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I should be fine right? Thanks.

Nada gives me 11,775 for trade in on the SS marked for almost 20K. So 125% of LTV would be 14,718. That's how much you would only be able to finance for that SS.
I think you should be able to talk the dealer down to something close to that. The 00's aren't worth as much as the 01-02's

Anyway, I received the blank check in the mail, yeah I wont be able to get the car. I didn't even think that it would have to be in my name since the loan is in my name and there is no way in hell I would be able to afford the insurance with my driving record. The car would have to go into my Mom's name for me to afford the insurance. I could always buy the car and just let it sit and not have insurance on it, haha. Just kidding. Unless I am missing something here or there is some way to get my Mom's name on the title without her being on the loan then there is no way I can get it.

But hey, you already have an LS1!
But hey, you already have an LS1!
Now an even harder decision.
(A) Continue with the sale of my car. It's not perfect. Would need a repaint on the hood due to some rock chips, right front fender needs repainted due to some peeling paint but if that was fixed I would feel MUCH better about the car. It has had some paint work elsewhere, some runs and things here and there and some over spray. All cosmetic things though.
OR
(B) Keep it and mod it since it is paid off and only has 62k on it. The interior is damn near perfect aside from a very small wear spot on the drivers seat. If I keep it I am going to start throwing some engine mods at and get new rims.
I don't know what to do now. I could use the money from the car, but also do not need it. If I start modding it I don't know if I will want to get rid of it then. Decisions decisions.
