When the skip shift "locks" out the gears, does it lock the gears from spinning, or does it lock the gear stick from being able to be set into the positions for those gears?

It just locks them from going into those gears.

That's a relief! Thank you very much.

I admit it would be somewhat confining to have to shift into 4th gear all the time.

It only does it if you're less than half throttle in 1st gear I believe and below a certain RPM. There are bypass modules that are easy to install to disable skip shift. I'm sorry I don't know more about it, mine is an A4.

Here, the WS6store has it for $18.99 with free shipping right now. http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...3a794c49b1022a. It also says exactly what CAGS is and what it does in there too.

It typically engages at part throttle in first gear between 15 -20 mph. When engaged, you are simply blocked from shifting into second (as it pushes you into 4th gear). Pretty cool that a $20 clip in connector could eliminate a function that saved us over $500 on the gas guzzler tax!!

I just picked up my '99 SS last night and this is already driving me nuts (city/slow driving). Is this the right part?

It's a Solenoid on the side of the Tranny that when it engages it locks into a groove on this part here..

This piece sits in the Shift Rail and is the piece that meshes with the Shift Pattern Plate below it, these two pieces guide the Forks into their proper Gates. The groove on it makes it go directly into 4th Gear from first when the CAGS Solenoid kicks in. The groove is located on the right side of it(in refrence to the pic), and is right infront of that Plug that you see in the pic. That is a Plug that I made and installed where the CAGS Solenoid would have gone.

The way CAGS works is it engages above a certian RPM in first, and makes you go to 4th for "cruising".

I appreciate it, but I picked an SLP unit up on Summit (got to install it this weekend). What a difference that makes.

I've just got a few pictures on photobucket. I was going to lift it, but I decided against it (didn't want to spend the money and make it ride like $hit). Granted OME is supposed to ride great, but I wasn't all that impressed with how my brothers '00 100 serious rides with the 2" OME kit.

It has 285's, IPOR skid plate, and ARB w/IPA's. It's a good rig, but I don't drive it much anymore (for obvious reasons, lol.).

Looks good, I really like that color.

They dont ride too bad dependingon the setup. I have the Slee heavy springs and not quite enough gear to weigh it down so it's pretty tight but I dont mind it. On my other cruiser I had the J springs and it rode nice but was at stock weight, no bumpers, etc.

Are you on the ih8mud forum...(Now that the thread is way off topic anyway!)
