Header Install, How hard is it really
I need to know how hard is it to install headers on my 98 camaro Z28, the headersd are SLP Longtubes. do i need a lift or can i do it in my drive way with a jack and hand tools?

Um no...An install takes atleast 4 hours, whatever shop your going to that charges $25 an hour is amazing. Most shops charge a minimum of $350 from what I have seen...I did mine at home with some jack stands and had no problems what so ever. I would reccomend doing it yourself, learning about your car, and saving money for future mods.

Thats crazy low. You can expect to pay more than that. If you have the time and a few friends, get some beer and you'll be done in no time.

dude it easy if you can change the spark plugs you can do the header install and all you just need any jack except the factory and sum jack stand bingo easy stuff (do it rigth the first time) oh and save your self the time and buy some good gasket because the ones that come with the header are crap easy stuff.

Save yourself the loss of sanity. Something about SLP LTs just makes em a pain and a half to install.

for a first timer it will usually take about 6 to 7 hours.
advice is to have a buddy help hold the headers up for you so you can bolt them up. un bolt the coil pack assy and take that off. spark plug wires spark plugs. and a good ole 10mm ratchet wrinch will work wonders in the back of that passenger side

My personal advise is to take it to a shop if you want to save yourself the headache OR buy a bottle of bourbon to keep you company! ...just my .02

ok ya my roommate that i never see is a mechanic at the local chevy dealership that i used to work at in sales and he also said that we could prolly do it in my rents garage, but he is just worried about breaking bolts off in the block, anyone seein that happening?

I haven't had that happen yet. I'd say its alot more likely to strip the threads out of the aluminum than it woult be to break the bolt off. If you are talking about removal of the original bolts then just try and spray it down with some penatrating lube and let it soak. It's not too hard. You'll be glad that you did it once its done.

$350 for installation????? Well damn that's like almost another set of headers! Where do u live or what? That's how much it cost me for my TA a while back and also for my friend's vette who just got them about a month ago!

$350 is a pretty average price.. doesn't matter what shop you go to here in Houston - they all charge around $350 avg. It's expensive no doubt but you save yourself time and headache letting someone else do it.. i'd GLADLY pay $100!!

use some wd-40 on them instead of the header bolts
