Part number for 01 & 02 F-body clutch is 12581650 which I believe happens to be the same part number clutch for the 98-00 f-bodies
Part number for a 01 & 02 Z06 clutch is 12570806
So how does the 01 & 02 F-body have the Z06 clutch, I have asked this question sevral times and no one has an answer, they just tell me it does. Does anyone know for sure, or are they just saying this because someon once said they do? When I contacted Fred Beans the parts manager denyed that that the true Z06 clutsh was put into any f-bodys from the factory.

I'm having my clutch swapped out and went by the shop to see how it was going. My clutch had been slipping a little and would smell a little burnt after WOT.
The shop showed me the clutch and it was almost gone. And to our surprise,it was the original stocker. At least thats what I was told. They said because of the markings on it??Here is the clincher...My car has 140K miles on her.
The previous owner must (I've owned the car for about 3yrs/and 15K miles or so)have always babied it and it shows...You would never guess the milage on my car just by looking at it.The only clues were the cloudy headlights and small road chips in the front.
I think this just goes to show you.The life of a clutch REALLY depends on getting a decently made one and how the car is driven.

did you happen to see it in the car? I had my trans out recently and took this picture(I want to know if this is stock). I bought the car used with a bad trans. at 140,000 plus. I am wondering if this clutch is original. I put my trans back in after repair. It still works fine 150,600 on odometer now.

Mine lasted to about 70,000. The 125 pill and the 4.10s finally did it,LOL! Got to where everytime I went WOT it just kinda revved and about 2,000 rpm later it grabbed. Pretty tough for just a stock LS6.

how do you downshift correctly? I get the concept i usually let the clutch out in a controlled matter just like shifting up driving normally. I dont give gas as im letting it out or anything. Sound about right? But that was when i did downshift i dont now cuz I dont think it is worth it, auto cars dont get to downshift and there brakes last long enough. Any real reasons why to downshift other then saving the brakes? thanks.

downshifting can help stop, but these cars dont really need it. downshifting to slow down is more for vehicles towing so it doesnt overheat the brakes.
however... downshifting is good for when you are getting ready to accelerate (say a race), after comin out of a corner etc.
best way to downshift is to rev match at least roughly. if ur in 5th at 40mph and ur gonna downshift to 2nd... rev the motor some so when u put it in 2nd it wont rev the motor up and cause the car to slow down... that will hurt the clutch, because you are causing it to instantaneously slow down a 3500lb car. follow?

So its not really worth it, i can do more burnouts and other things instead of downshifting cuz it will always wear it out a lil right. Im not saying i can now do a burnout ever time i drive it but i mean, its really not worth it. Does this sound right to everyone? I understand downshifting so your in the powerband before racing and stuff, i allways down shift into 2nd when im turning but dont downshift when getting to a stop light or sign. I dont need to rev match it for 2nd gear for turning normal cuz im usally @ like 15mph when turning. thanks.
