87 Octane gas in LS1

Back when 91 octane was 1.80 here in nm, that was all I would use. Once the price started going up I started using 87. I havent noticed a differance at all, I took the car to the track and it ran the same. When I start to mod my car a little more I plan on switching back to 91.

But when it all comes down to it your cpu will take care of you until you descide you need 91 at least. But don't expect to outrun that mustang messing with you cause you went cheap. Fill it up with 93 and reset the cpu. There are alot of cars out there that it really doesn't matter what you put in them. But the lsx motor isn't one of them.

Only once did my car get 87 while I've owned it due to my girlfriends mistake. I came out of the gas station just as I saw her hang up the 87 nozzle. So I calculated the gas mileage for that tank like I always do once I ran it out. 87 caused me to basically spend a dollar more on gas due to worse gas mileage then if I had put in 93. So, at least for my car, 87 costs a dollar more then using 93. No money savings to be had on it in my case.

When I first bought my car I left the dealership and went sraight to the gas station I started putting in 87 and while i was fueling up i decided to look at the owners manual to only find out that it needed 93, I was like "oh ****". But I filled up anyway and didn't have any problems. Every other V8 i've driven(new or old) takes 87 so I didn't expect this to take 93. I've used 89 a few times now but only if I know i'm going to race for that tank, even if someone ask me too, I wont do it while on 89. I use 93 most of the time though.
TBK'SS and APEXVIII-Are both of your 13.2's after the mods in your sig?

Don't be swayed by the bleating from the high-octane-only flock. If you'll read your owner's manual (imagine that...) you'll see that 87 is on the list of approved fuels.
If you don't have a copy of your owner's manual, perhaps you'll find it here.
You'll get slightly less mpg's, won't suffer appreciable timing pulls in the winter, and will not destroy your motor. As for the "I never run less that XX.", well, good for you.
Drive what you've got and enjoy it.

I would rather eat roots and live in a tent than put low octane fuel in my car. But that's just me.

87 is NOT on the list of approved fuels unless your driving a V6. Read it again
If you have the 3800 V6 engine (VIN Code K), use
regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher.
If you have the 5.7L V8 engine (VIN Code G), use
premium unleaded gasoline rated at 91 octane or higher
for best performance. You may use middle grade or
regular unleaded gasolines, but your vehicle’s
acceleration may be slightly reduced.

^^^As far as I know, 87 can cause knocking in LS1's. It's just not worth it to run lower grade fuel, in the long-run your engine will be happier. Although, i'm surprised the one guy said 87 didn't do well in his LT1. In my mom's 1995 Caprice with the LT1, all we have ever used is 87, with no problems.
