Default 87 Octane gas in LS1

So i put about 8 gallons of 87 octane in the trans am just because it is 30 cents cheaper. I have heard that there is supposed to be knocking and irregular running and such but I have noticed absolutely nothing different, even performance wise. Is putting that gas in actually HURTING the car in any way?

Was your car calibrated with a tune for 93? That is my question.

My first car was a 94 Tbird with a 4.6 V8. It had a Hypertech chip calibrated for 93 octane. I always put 93 in, but my wife (Who is frugal) filled it up one day. She had usually put 93 in it as I wanted. I drove it after she had filled it up one day and I asked her,"Did you put 87 in this?" She was surprised that I could tell. She thought that I would never tell the difference.

I never put one drop of 87 in my WS6.

It has the stock tune whatever it is. I was under the impression that 91 minimum was what was supposed to be used

You might get a knock or two. I have seen a lot of these cars with a knock problem.

I really wouldn't run anything less than 93, unless you really need to save that extra two quarters!

You definitely need to get a tune! Those cars are tuned very mild.

yea the knock sensor will allow you to run it but why would you want to. and you really wont notice it unless you are going up a hill or somthing or at like wot. at cursing speed you wont really notice a differce.the manufactuers said 91 or higher for a reason they spent time and money find what it should take when the car is stock.

The car from the factory cames with tables for both low and high octane. When using 87 octane the computer uses the low octane table to compensate and removes a little timing. If your cars ECM has been edited/tuned contact your tunner to see if he copied the high octane tables to the low.

You shouldn't be able to notice a big difference if it's a stock tune on the ECM.

If you put 87 octane in your car (ya cheap bastard) the GM gods will be pissed, and your rear end will break. Bottom line, STOP.

Don't be swayed by the bleating from the high-octane-only flock. If you'll read your owner's manual (imagine that...) you'll see that 87 is on the list of approved fuels.

If you don't have a copy of your owner's manual, perhaps you'll find it here.

You'll get slightly less mpg's, won't suffer appreciable timing pulls in the winter, and will not destroy your motor. As for the "I never run less that XX.", well, good for you.

Drive what you've got and enjoy it.

i use 93 since day 1, i have about , 6000 gallons super 8000 regular and 4000 diesel.
plus 2 pumps 3 in ground tanks and a 2 bay garage lol, but honestly it wil save you in the long run when u break something or it wil probabbly be more prone to mess something up if u thi8nik about it fill ur tank with regular thats like 13 gallons at my price now is 2.93.9 a gallon,=about 38.22 dollars now my super is 3.25=42.25 so its 4 dollars more to put super per full up but thats the cost i have posted outside i pay kinda less even t hough gas stations including arent makin **** right now barely enough to pay the attendant and sales and gas taxes but it comes out pretty on top id say if u can waste 6 bucks on cigarettes a week u better quit and just put the super.
