Pros - Lower ETs.

Cons - Lower traps and no man pedal.

I've had 3 Trans Am's, 2 M6 and 1 A4 and the first time I got in my A4 and drove it around I had so much fun. It was awesome to not worry about shifting and still have the insane power of an ls1 throw you back in your seat. After all the bs you hear about only m6 cars only being fun to drive I barely even considered an auto, but that changed quick once I got one.
I think there is too much sterotype about auto's being slow and boring, and it just isn't true. Just my opinion.
You'll have pros and cons with both...auto you have maybe 10-15 less hp (which can be made up in cut 60" times with a stall n tires)
M6's you have to worry about your clutch going out or your shifting fork.

That's the same way I see it. I like enjoying the power of an LS1 without the hassle of a T56 or clutch pedal.

After driving an M6 LS1, I was glad to get back into my A4 LS1. I find the auto to be much more 'fun' in any type of driving, simply because I don't like shifting. It's bothersome and gets old quick.

Point is, either you like shifting or you don't. Regardless of the type of driving you do. For those of us that don't enjoy shifting, there is nothing 'boring' about an A4, and we aren't missing any 'fun' by not having an M6.

If the new Camaro has a 6L80E vs. T-56, the 6L80E is going to walk all over it. It'll be way more consistent, you'll have full manual paddle shifting, the tranny is a tank and will surely be able to be built to hold 1,000 hp in no time, it's as small and light as a 4L60E, the gear ratios are more aggressive than an M6...

Autos are the wave of the future for all cars including muscle cars. They're coming faster, more reliable and with the A6's, you get the same mpg as an M6. Fewer dead spots, plus full manual mode means you get all the fun of a manual without the headaches of using a clutch through traffic.

I like my A4 just fine, but I can't wait til the A6.

A6 > A4, anyday (assuming the A6 is strong).

But I'd still MUCH rather have an A4 than an M6.

I think that a 5th gen Camaro with an LS3 + 6L80E and a final gear ratio in the 3.73 rage would be perfect.

I just got my car after the stall and cam installation. I dont think I will ever own another m6! I really love playing with the stall and its a beast out of the hole.. Tranny should last a little longer than an m6 too.

I like m6's but wouldn't own one unless I had a seperate car. My auto does the job for me. I don't like having to constantly shift. A4's are quicker in every area except for roll racing but I think roll racing is gay anyway. Whatever you get you will love it.

Although im a fan of manuals, autos are impressive as hell. One of my friends drives a Mercedes C230 sport with a 7 speed auto. The transmission is incredible, it shifts fast and incredibly hard. Also, the gear ratio splits are so close that the car is a monster on the highway considering the tiny v6 it has. The days of manual transmissions are numbered. Autos are providing the best of both worlds now.

I'll race you any day. But I would never drive a automatic muscle car unless it had a screw blower. To each his own but i find it god dam depressing seeing a nice classic muscle car like a 1970 chevelle and seeing an auto in it, its like the guy who owns it boughtit for his wife.
Sounds like you got manland issues or something, take some Viagra n a chill pill.

What are you stalled A4 guys getting in the MPG department?? I LOVE to drive and that is the main reason Ive been looking at getting a M6 due to its highway MPG.

What are featers and who ruffled them? You didn't offer an opinion. You asked a question. Then you followed that up by saying autos in muscle cars depress you and are for girls.

Do you really need me to quote you again? Your comments were in no way informative and in every way insulting. Here is a novel idea. Why not say you prefer manuals without insulting autos. I know that sounds crazy but it just might work.

If I remember right GM made more autos then manuals. It was something like 7 of 10 came out of the factory as A4's. So when you insult automatics and thier owners you are in fact insulting the majority of f-body owners.

And 12.3 is still better then 12.7

I guess what I'm really tryin to get out of this is, which one will give you a better 1/4 time and can handle the beating of racing better. The autos just appeal to me a bit more becuase they seem a little harder to mess up, because you always have percise shift points, and never have to worry about missing a gear. Not to mention, you also dont have to worry about frying a clutch when ya burn em!! Thanks again guys!
Autos will get you the better 1/4 mile time after you get a decent stall. Just be sure to get a big transmission cooler and you should be gtg. Don't worry about the M6 vs A4 thing. It always happens in these threads anyway. Just take the good info and run with it. That's what ls1techs here for.

Good luck.

Lockup stalls don't effect highway mph so 22-24 is normal. However the bigger the stall the worse the city mpg gets. M6's get 28-30 mpg on the highway and get much better city mpg then stalled autos do.

The M6 is a clear cut winner in gas mileage and you're right to be looking for one if that's a concern. Plus M6's are a lot of fun to drive on the street when it's not bumper to bumper traffic.

Have you seen the 6L90? The damn thing holds nearly 600 ft-lbs from the factory. I'm hearing rumors of Corvette guys throwing down 500 to the pavement through a stock 6L80E.

Granted, they're not invincible, but for that kind of reliability and performance from a STOCK automatic is incredible. These things are looking to be stronger than 4L80E's in STOCK trim. Whether or not they can be built to hold what a 4L80E can hold maxed out is yet to be seen, but the future is bright indeed.

These 6L80/6L90's are looking to be as strong in STOCK FORM as the strongest built 4L60E's! Pair that with even more aggressive gearing, TWO OVERDRIVES and being able to run 2.73's in the rear and have the first gear acceleration of 3.73's in a 4L80E is incredible! What an awesome mix of performance, fuel efficiency and reliability

Yea Im going to be living in a city but bumper to bumper traffic is a rare thing there. I love doing highway driving going to different places and getting 22-24 is just not good for me.

I do respect that an A4 can get respectable times at the track and are great but to me there is just a more intimate feel with the car when driving a manual.

Now if my next car offers an A6 then I will probably jump all over that.

I dont know about you, but when my converter locks up at 45 mph my rpm's drop by 200 or so. Cruising at 65mph with 4.10 gears I'm at 2300 rpms. With my cam and 390rwhp, I average 18-19 mpg with spirited driving.
