I just got whatever Autozone had that wasn't synthetic. No issues to speak of *knocks on wood*.

I didn't want to add synthetic because I hadn't flushed it out and didn't know how to; I just lost some when I took my radiator out of the car. I didn't know if it was safe to mix either and sided with not chancing anything.

how to flush PS? disconnect the feed hose to the pump and extend it.. then run it into a container of fresh fluid.

have the return hose go into a catch can, when the fluid come out clean, stop and reconnect.

it's unneccessary.

at every ooil change use a turkey baster to suck the res dry, then refill

color depends on the brand fluid you use. Some stuff is red, some is purple, others are blue, and yet others are amber. I would know, I have a blown seal on one of the return lines on my rack lol. I made a thread in the General Maintenance section about it...

you should all install a power steering coolers!!! it helps! not to hard either, for a fluid, if your pump is a bid old, and your fluid looks like **** i would recommend sucking out the fluid in the resoirvoir and putting in the lucas power steering fluid, even tho its a stop leak that **** helps and quiets the pump alot! if you dont want to use that go with the prestone! and my fluid has never changed color after the power steering cooler install

If it's whining it's probably very low on fluid. Flushing won't do anything vs. just refilling it, and if it's full and whining get ready to replace the pump.

Your first time you'll get pissed and it will take some time, but it's pretty easy. Just get the pulley remover tool from auto zone when you buy your replacement pump. They are free.

I just bought some from advance that is their brand and it's suppose to stop squeaking, leak, etc. etc. etc. It's red in color though... I'd say any color other than "****" is probably safe.. haha
