My 35th had the standard airbox, not the Blackwing. I would be interested in testing a blackwing vs a traditional airbox like the MTI lid if someone locally has one.

Tony
Hey Tony I have a blackwing lid if you want to borrow it and test it, I live in Friendswood. Just let me know if you interested.

Well if your doing 337rwhp with just those 2 mods, what the **** is wrong with mine. I bolted up FLP long tube headers, no cats, Borla cat back exhaust, SLP intake lid and K&N filter, and ported MAF from Thunder Racing. I only did 338rwhp and 352rwtq at MTI. I have an 02 Z28, 6-speed.
Man do I feel jealous!
Don't feel too bad dude. Some LS1's are just stronger than others from the factory(doesn't really matter how much you continue to modify it)...

But I'd bet your A/F ratio is rich(or it could be lean). You don't need custom tuning to fix this. Just buy a used MAFT for around $100 or so and have MTI adjust the AFR on the dyno(in which case, you'll probably pick up at least a little more power).

9Ball definitely has a FREAK IMO!

Wonder how that guy in the last issue of GM High Tech performance feels with his '02 Camaro that only produced 269.96 rwhp and 287.78 rwtq? That was with a SLP Air Lid, Pro 5.0 shifter,"Dynomouth" exhaust. and only 4800 miles on the odometer. I guess the humid Florida conditions had some effect on the results. Now I've heard that the engines come to life so to speak as the mileage accumulates, but that still seems like very low numbers for a basically stock car.

I'd have to agree that you got yourself a ringer...congrats!

Tony,
I'll agree that sometimes the "race stuff" can make a car sometimes less fun to drive. If I didn't have my Nova, I'd definately be modding the Formula more. When I first got my "Bird 2 years ago and checked out LS1Tech and saw your site, I was very tempted to started modding the "driver" like crazy! I guess low 13s and an occasional 12 second pass will have to do, b/c I still love driving the Nova, even with 3 inch exhaust and its lumpy cam. But I also love the stares it gets!

good luck with the new "project!"

Tony,
Congrats on the 35th SS.
You know I like them, I got the stripes for my car.
Those are good numbers. I only dynoed 315/328 with the K&N and your MAF. That was in 4/17/99. Man, where has the time gone? Would I beneift from a larger MAF or was yours ported?
Also, I get my vette back tomorrow from COH with all new rotors, calipers, pads, brake lines, master cylinder and fluid. So she will be ready to cruise this weekend.

Might as well include a port and polished TB which will keep your car streetable and fun with no hard core mods.

I dynoed 300 to the wheels bone stock in a 02 SS A4 is that subpar?

I wonder if that SLP dual dual exhaust really has a lot to do with your high stock hp number.

300 rwhp stock out of an A4 is great. The dual-dual exhaust is worth about 11-13 rwhp over the base model system. I've seen too many guys with a dual-dual swap for another 3" system and pick up no power at all. I had the same catback on my Formula and it worked well.

Wow Tony,

Those are some killer numbers for a stock LS1.I thought mine were pretty good until i saw yours

Makes me wonder how many others are out there like that, we will never know.I would like to know how many LS1s never get on a dyno

Cheers nice numbers!

How do you know this, I heard the screen is there to help straighten the air flow to get a good reading for the MAS

Mine never got on a dyno, an likely never will since there is no one near by with a good dyno setup. Those sound like good strong numbers you have there Now I want to go find out what mine will put down. It feels strong enough but "feeling is not believing". Nice.

You guys know this thread is like 6 years old right? Anyways Im tired of hearing people saying to keep the screen in or it will some how hurt something, thats a bunch of BS. While you may not gain much of anything, it wont hurt a damn thing either.

It's a big debate. There's proof both ways. This is a 6-year-old thread too. Some say leave it; others say keep it.
