What temp does your LS1 Run?
#22
My dash gauge stays right below 210, but it runs at 193, the fans have been tuned to come on earlier.
I washed the engine once and ran it to dry it off. I switched the fans off with HPTuners and the dash gauge still never moved until it got up around 225.

Do any of you guys running 160 stats with the fans coming on sooner have any issues with your heater in the winter? I had a 160 stat with the fans coming on at 176 in my old 91 Z28, and in the winter my heater was lukewarm at best.

I don't know why you guys think the temp gage is a dummy gauge! Installing a different t-stat requires the fans to be tuned to turn on sooner, or install a fan override switch to optimize the effect of a different t-stat. You must do this because regardless of which temp t-stat you have installed, your running temp will stay around 210. The fans are set to retain that max, which are most essential when idling or in town driving. Just switching to a lower temp t-stat won't help in those conditions, but it will help at highway speeds.
The LS motors are designed to run this high temp in stock form mostly for emissions purposes. If you lower the running temp, you'll get a little more power, but burn a little more gas!

I've read it here several times that the factory gauge is not accurate. In my example I said my factory gauge always reads right below 210, with HPTuners hooked up it reads around 193, I also said that I once shut the fans off and idled it until the HPTuners temp read 225, at that point the factory gauge just reached 210.
If a gauge sits below 210 while the engine temp rises 30 degrees it's maybe not a dummy gauge, but it sure as hell isn't accurate.
The rest of your post is pretty much common knowledge.
