Heads, Cam, Intake, Headers, Exhaust will get you over 400 rwhp but you're going to need all of the supporting mods like suspension, drivetrain, etc to handle it all. Anyways, Good Luck with the build!!

For sure, 400RWHP is not to hard or expensive. I am at 383RWHP on motor and that is only with approx $2000 worth of stuff. If you do your own work (witch is part of the fun in having a fast car) then it will not break the bank. I would suggest a cam (with the Valve springs etc.) and LT Headers if your car is a 98 - 00 then an LS6 Intake and a good tune and you will be close to the 400RWHP mark. Good luck......

If you're looking for 400rwhp, that's done fairly often with a cam and full bolt-ons. My brother put down 420rwhp with a cam and bolt-ons and then trapped 118.9 after installing a 12-bolt (some power loss there).
I agree; keep your goal at 450rwhp and just make sure you go with the right parts. I don't think anyone was saying it's impossible or improbable to reach your original goal, because it's not. It's just not "conservative", as you stated in your first post.
Quality AFR or TFS heads, a decent sized/matched cam, a 90/90, and full bolt-ons will do it for 90% of the people out there, especially if you're running an M6 as opposed to a stalled A4.
The problem then comes that in order to put that to the ground, you'll need tires and suspension. This means more money and a broken 10-bolt, driveshaft, tranny, etc. Power comes at a price, and reliable power comes at a MUCH higher price.
Keep the goal, open the wallet.

A lot of good advice in this thread, and as others have said keep your original goal, if you don't you wont be satisfied. Hell I doubt once you hit 450hp you'll be satisfied. I know initially you will be, but the mod bug will strike again. Good luck.

You will need a big cam, great heads and a great intake. High octane fuel as well.
Might want to consider a 383 stroker. With a good H/C/I package 450 RWHP shouldn't be out of reach.

It not true that you need a BIG cam to reach 450rwhp hell high octane fuel is not even required. I don't think it can be done with a small cam but with a mild cam it is very much in reach.

I put down 443 rwhp with Patriot heads, 230/230 cam, lighty ported FAST 90, and kooks longtubes. This was through a M6 and a 12 bolt BTW. Better heads and a slightly bigger cam will for sure put you past your goal. Good luck with the build.

N0 he will not need a huge cam. A mild duration cam will be fine. AFR's through an ls6 intake will be fine. High octane fuel? What are you smoking? And NO he doesn't need a 383. Read up on stuff first before you just throw BullShit into the wind.

you can make 450rwhp cam only with the vindicator and still be streetable. i made 450 with just bolt ons and a cam and stock 28lb injectors. than 600rwhp 610 with no2. then took that off and did a ported 90/90, high compression heads, bigger injectors. and made almost 550rwhp non sae corrected. 500 sae corrected

450whp all nuts on a 346 w/ stock casting 241 heads = superior in design and part collaboration. Not to mention on an M6 setup. A4..wow. You'd also have to have superior tuning and assembly as well. He'll have to pay as much as a bolt-on blower kit will cost in the end for that kind of power. However, for 400rwhp..he can just have an X1 cam w/ a Fast 90/90, headers, and cutouts and he'll be close.

It can be done, Good stage 2 or 3 heads, high compression, great Cam, and at minimum need an LS6 Intake, will do better with Ported fast90.

450 isn't hard to make and it can be very streetable as well. There's people here that are well above that goal. I've seen individuals make 450 with a ls6 intake and stock ported TB on a mild cam. You just have to choose your parts wisely. And the cam doesn't have to be rediculous like an MS3 for instance. Stickies are your friend and pull up every post/thread in relation to your goal. Thats what I've been doing.
It is a fairly aggressive cam. I do not know the specs on it (in when I bought it). You would need to call TTP. The patriot performance LS6 stage II's were milled to 59cc's. To the best of my knowledge it does not have a pulley. LS6 intake with a P/P stock throttle body. A lid, LT's(cheapies) and duals. M6 car so it has a clutch. And well, thats about it. It made 448rwhp 418rwtq. The graph really starts to slow down past 5500rpm and flat spots/drops past 6k. That is due to the LS6 intake and stock injectors. The graph is uncorrected but the atmospheric conditions are not that far off what SAE is based on. Worst case its 430rwhp. Fast 92 and your there.
I'm really curios as to what my car will put up with a fast/injectors.
I say go for a very health H/C package and a GOOD tune. You will not regret it.
