I can't answer your question, I was going to post something along the same lines. I have the cam and am waiting for the heads to ship. The nearest tuner is 2 hours away and I was considering a handheld to get the car up and running after the swap. I hope you get a good answer. If not I'll post my own thread. Why are you considering the Predator and Crane unit?

All the hand held tuners will probably produce similar numbers. Question is what you are looking for in the tuner. Some have more features than others that you may or may not need. I ordered the predator and it will be here on friday and will let you know how it works out...

I'd go with a mail order tune. I don't know how effective programmers are on LS1's but they do absolutely nothing for an LT1. I am positive though that you will not be able to adjust for such drastic changes such as a cam. You will only be able to adjust shift points, adjust fr tires and gears, and "tune" for different fuels

Id have to disagree w/ u on that. I noticed an instant sotp differance on my 97 bolt on LT1 after a hpp install. I know most say that see nothing but if that was the case the companies would probably be outta business by now...To the thred starter as far as handhelds are concerned there all basically the same.

I was just saying what ive seen many times in the LT1 section on this forum. General consensus is that they are junk. I'd rather trust my money to a real tune.

both tuners are really the same you can expect little gains but nothing really drastic best bet is to just get it dyno tuned

big waste of money only reason i have oneis because it came with the car. car runs better with the stock tune. only thing ive used on the hpp3 is to adjust for my gear ratios and larger tires and to adjust the cooling fans for my 160 tstat

Predator is good if you are saving up for much bigger mods and a pro dyno tune later.

the predator is what i use. You will be able to adjust timing, PE, shift points, Tm delete, short and long term fuel trims, idle, shift firmness and other stuff. Since i've had the predator i've installed lt headers and 3.73 gears in my a4. I was able to turn off the rear sensors so the engine light wouldn't come on. Also i got alot of help from diablo's website posting questions and getting quick responses.

If you are going to spend that kind of money buy HPT and a wide band and do it right. The was a write up in GM hitech and this. One did alot better than the rest.

A dyno tune is about $500. You will yield much better results.
