Default Magnaflow muffler on a Flowmaster Catback???

I just bought a 99 Z28 Camaro about 2 months ago, well I finally have been able to daily drive it. I love how the Flowmaster sounds but I have heard the stories on how horrible they flow for our cars. So can I just buy a Crossflow Magnaflow muffler and put it in its place? I know it is gonna take some welding/positioning and what not but would that be any different than buying a full catback? Wouldn't it be just the same as a Magnaflow catback?

Any help and suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!!!

M

Yes, you can. Just make sure your inlet & outlet sizes match. This is what I did with my Hooker muffler. Just replaced the stock muffler & kept stock i-pipe/over axle & from muffler to tips.

Regardless of what you've hear all catbacks generally flow similar numbers, some guys have dyno'd great w/ flowmasters and some havent(like everything else),if you like the way it sounds keep it and save the extra bucks for a change that will give you real gains like some LT's.

I have been reading that lately, I have just heard soooo many people say that Flowmaster is more restrictive than stock.

You're crazy ^ Flowmasters have proven over and over to be costing 15-20 hp on 350+ hp cars. The rest of Flowmaster's line doesnt cost much hp, but the catbacks for our cars BLOW, wait.. I mean dont blow.. Nothing is going to flow like a "straight through" catback

I personally saw a 30rwhp gain swapping from a Flowmaster catback to a Magnaflow muffler, and my friends 350whp LT1 saw a 21hp gain. Ditch that Flowmaster fast!

I had read so much about Flowmasters being shitty, then out of the blue 2 people in different threads said they aren't that bad...I think its a mustang only exhaust...lol...

So go Magnaflow...What would you guys think I would have to the wheels with a Magnaflow and mods in sig...I know I know get some LT's, this summer.

you'll learn that people will say all kinds of ****, doesnt mean its true, or you should go by it..

I'm sure the Mustang Flowmasters arent that bad at all, considering they are duals

MUSTANGS do not have CROSSFLOW MUFFLERS. That is the big diff.

This kid I graduated with in '06 is driving around town with a V6 Camaro, I think I am gonna see if he will trade me his Magnaflow muffler for my Flowmaster.
