Default HELP!!!! SES Light

I was driving and had the car floored and missed 4th gear. Now the SES light is on and the car is ticking. I am thinking maybe a pushrod got bent but I don't know.

Missed 4th as in put it in 2nd??? Sounds like you bent one. I wouldnt be driving too much more if you want to prevent further damage. Take it to a shop, actually I would tow it. Dont screw with it.

Hit the rev limiter. I don't know the code cuz it just happened a couple of hours ago. I drove it home and ain't driving it no more till i figure out whats wrong. What else could be wrong besides a bent rod. And assuming it is a rod how much would it cost????

Plural, rods. You might have bent one, but you should replace all of them just incase. Check out the sponsers to see what prices are. off hand i forgot. Besides a bent rod, you could have broken springs, a rocker, piston, who knows.

The car only has 32000 miles on it. Hopefully didn't do too much harm.

We know you hit the limiter, but did you do it on pure acceleration or shifting to another gear but missing and going down. Rods arent too bad. I think speed inc sells them 120 for a set of comp chrome mollys. You are going to need to tear down the engine though. this isnt just a quick fix.

It was pure acceleration. I didn't miss and go to second. I thought it was in 4th so I hit the gas and hit the rev limiter and realized that I wasn't in gear so I let off. How much labor would be involved. I was thinking that once the valve covers are off you could just pull the rods and replace them.

The noise is not terribly loud. No loss of oil pressure but the noise is there throughout the RPM range. I would think if it was real loud it would be a lifter. If I get the hardened push rods and miss a gear again then I may cause more damage than simply a bent rod in the future correct? This is my first manual tranny and it has the Pro 5.0 shifter which I'm beginning not to like.

why don't you want people to know where you reside that means live?

if you where close, I have all my stock valve train parts I would give you and install for you.

then teach you how to shift.

I live in Michigan. From what I understand they aren't to hard to put in. I have a buddy that works for GM so I was going to have him take a look at it.

Sounds like your going to be ok. I would still pull the rods and check everything out. Good Luck.

it's good to have a Buddy that knows cars.

removing push rods is easy on these cars testing them is easy also.

LS1how.com is a good resource for learning how to.
