Hydro-locking or what?
Hydro-locking or what? So yesterday I was driving around in the Daily Driver during what seemed to be the second flood, all of a sudden I went through a massive puddle on accident. My DD has a "bottom-feeder" CAI. I think I may have sucked up some water in there but I'm not sure how to tell. I lost most power and the engine started sputtering on me. There was smoke coming out of the exhaust also. It will turn over and run it just sounds like its going to die. Any ideas if this can be fixed or am I screwed? Also, I don't know if this is the right section to post this in, sorry.
You can take out your spark plugs and crank the car over to push any water out of the cylinders if any got in. I hydrolocked my TA 2 years ago but it threw a rod through the side of the block.
I'm thinking maybe jumping to Hydrolock was a bit hasty. I checked on some focus forums, and it sounds like the MAF may be soaked and just need to let it dry out and maybe change the oil. Hopefully that will be it. As much as I love driving the Z, I love the gas mileage of the Focus!!
My father hydrolocked his 01 Zo6 by driving through a large puddle of water. He had a halltech ram-air setup on his vett. His insurance paid for the motor because of the amount of rain on the day he did it. I don't understand that, but I did see the 12k check he got which was a down payment on a 427 TT motor he had put in the car.

Gases compress liquids don't, hydro lock means more liquid volume then top dead center head volume. this is very bad and things always break if it happens.

Liquid gasoline does not compress. I've seen engines hydrolock from stuck fuel injectors. A normally operating fuel injector does not spray enough fuel into the cylinder to hydrolock the engine.

I hydrolocked my motor two years ago. A telltale sign is water in the oil. Open your oil filler and look for a light brown/tan residue. My motor died and turning the key ripped the starter out of the block. Also I had a bent valve. See my post on it:
