Default What year car have I got?

Hi,

I would like to know if I have a LS6 intake manifold, and confirm the year of my car.

I see the sticky guide about LS6 intake, but mine is already installed on the car, making comparison difficult.
I always assumed I had the LS6 as I thought I had a 2001 TA (comes as standard on 01 cars), as it said this on the approx date of registration. But reading the door sticker the date 09/00 appears, making me wonder if I have a late 2000 car?
I have the old style (98/00) WS6 wheels ( but that's not unherd of on a 2001 car either ).

I think the vin number may contain the info I need, anyone got any pointers?

More than likely it means your car was built in September of 2000. It's still a 2001 car though. They start building the next production year in August or so of the previous year. For example, the 2009 Camaros are being built or about to be built in 2008.

Its an 01 anything after August (8-00) would mean 2001 if production was 7-00 it would be a 2000 year model.

Yep, 2001 on the catalyst decal under the hood. Thanks for the pointer.

Na, didn't steal it, I imported it to the UK via a USA dealer.
over here a give away on year is the number plate, but I had to have it re registered, as US plates have to stay in the States. And over here it's numbered up as a 2000 model, and then the door sticker date, and early style wheels got me wondering!

Thanks for the all help.

Now I KNOW I've got a 2001 WS6.

Ive been wondering if my car is a 2002.
The door sticker with the date has come off, is their anywhere else that says the month?

The vin number, cataylist number and my insurance cardsay 2001. but the wheels i had on it said 2002, and the dealership had it listed as a 2002 when i bought it.

any ideas if it could still be a 2002 model?

There are exceptions to every rule. They started making the 2002 in May of 01. They wanted more of the "last year of production" cars. There was also a design change in May of 01 to the wiper style piston rings to reduce oil blow by at higher pressures in all LS1's.

Excellent point! The napier ring.

Some Vette owners under warranty had their rings changed by GM after complaining about oil consumption. They didnt do that for any fbodys that I was able to find an article about.

I would check the serial number on the intake if you want to make sure its really a LS6 intake.

01s-02s did come with the ls6 intake stock but you never know if the owner before you took it out or something.

I have a 02 ws6 and when I checked my intake serial number to see if it was a real LS6 intake it turned out it was a older LS1 intake

Well GM VIN # has the info for the exact year. Look at the last eight of the vin. The very first number of the last eight is the year of production. The letter Y is 2000, #1 is 2001 and #2 is 2002. so it may look some thing like 1GTEK29V6(1)1255565 That 1 means that vechile is a 2001
Maybe that will help you if you haven't found it yet.
