I have a 3600 Vig converter and basic bolt ons and stock gears and run 11.9-12.0@108.XMPH consistantly.
Remeber when choosing a converter a Vig 3600 is equal to a Yank SS4000. They will boh flash to 4000Rpms once you go WOT
I have driven a sy-st3500 Yank, a PT4400 Yank, and my 3600 Vig
The PT4400 is quite possibly the most violent launch I have ever experienced.
The 3500 Yank was decent but very mild compared to the other two I have driven
From what I've gathered figure out what the long term plans for the car are...
If it's strictly a N/A weekend warrior I'd go Yank PT4400/4000 but just as driveable as both other conveters. There all pretty much the same until lockup, but WOT the bigger converter shines...
If N20 is anywhere down the line 3600 Vig or Yank SS4000
If this is a 99%(only race 2-4 times a year/never plan to run DR's) Street car I'd go Vig 3200 or SS3600
It all depends on your goals and application....
But a big stalled car will make you forget all about those M6 cars
Try to find someone in your area with a converter similar to what your considering

That is soooooo wrong!
stall first then gears! unless you break the rear or can afford a new 12 or better or race frequently(in which case you need a new rear)gear is not noticeable enough unless you go to 3.73s or so. With a gear you will lose mpg.

Depends on your driving.. in city driving stop and go traffic is where you will see a couple MPG loss with a stall. If you do gears you will get worse mileage by a couple mpg on the highway. I average around 17-18 mpg in my car with a Vig 3600 and 3.73 gears driving in 70% city traffic on a daily basis.

+1 check out the vid of my car.. Vig 3600 (more like a 4000 though). It nowhere near as bad as people think. literally you get used to it after a minutes of driving.

Good illustration of the difference.
With my stock stall and 2.73's, with a light foot it'll shift all the way into OD without even passing 2k rpm.
Question: 1/3 of my daily commute is on a long straight rural road with a 35mph speed limit. Traffic usually flows at 40mph. At a steady 40mph, does the converter lock and then you're running <1500 rpm?
I assume it locks on the highway, so highway mileage isn't affected.
I was thining of a mild stall, say a 3k Circle D, and considering I'd keep the 2.73's and I do very little actual stop and go city driving, could I expect a minimal mileage dop? Say only 1-1.5? Or am I crazy?
I drive 64 miles a day, so I need all the mileage I can get!
I'm not looking to make a race car, I just want to wake the thing up a bit. She feels very sluggish with the 2.73's.
Thanks.
Sorry if this is a threadjack.
