ya ive ran out of gas b4 to ..and it has the exact same symptoms, im gnna start by replaceing the fuel filter, like people have said, its a fuel problem, cause i have just about checked everything else, fuel pressure gauge only shows 5 or so psi, and i think it should b around 30 if i remember right, im hopeing something is just clogged and its not the fuel pump, i appreciate all the responses i have gotten, im just stressed out cause i hate whn **** like this happens

i realize the quality of the pic is horrible, but a few days after i purchased the car i noticed there had been a portion cut out above the fuel tank in my trunk, looks like preveious owner had put in a new pump, and cut from above and taped it back up, so it looks like this isnt the first time there has been a fuel problem

Looks like you'll have no problem changing the fuel pump, if needed, then.

Fuel pumps tend to be fairly common problem with these things, so it should be no surprise to see that hole in there. The guy went the easier route to change it, too.

Fuel filter from AutoZone/O'Reillys etc. should run you less than 10 bucks.

If its only 5 psi, change the pump and filter.

Since there's already a hole in the hatch, changing the fuel pump is going to be very easy. Just disconnect all the lines, remove the pump, install new pump, button all up and you're good to go.

Okay... A bit simplified version. I'm sure there are some write-ups somewhere on the net for the job.

Have you tried taking off the gas cap yet? If you had just filled up your car could be vapor locked. I had this happen after putting gas in. I got gas and went to work, then went downtown to eat and the car ran fine. Got off work and went to start the car and it wouldn't start. It would fire for a second and then not start. I could smell gas so i got out to check for vapor lock. I could feel the air come out of the tank when I opened the cap. Got in and the car started right up. Just a thought for you. Think could happen while driving too.

ok so a quick update, i took off one of the fuel lines tht goes into the filter, and i thn turned the key to on to c if the pump was actually pumping, and fuel came shooting out of the line, so should i rule out a faulty pump?

maybe go up to the motor and unplug the fuel line up there to see if its making it all the way up there.

ok so i just put a new filter in there and i felt a difference, it actually started somewht on the third crank and the idle went to about 1000 and i tried giveing it gas but it just dies and shakes, chould it b somewhere further up the fuel line, im completely stumped...unless i am hooking up the fuel pressure gauge up wrong, i am still gettin around 5psi of pressure, but whn i unhooked the fuel line from the fuel filter i was able to fill up a water bottle with fuel whn i primed it...i am also geeting fuel squirting out whn i purge the valve at the end of the fuel rail....wht else could it b?

im just going to go out on a limb and say you need a new fuel pump. also are you one of those people that let there tank get pretty low before you put gas in?
