K&N air filter help
Everyone i talk to tells me to get a lid. Right now i just have a k&n air filter sitting on the K&N platform. Is it suppose to be like that or what is the best way for what i have?

yeah if you just have an oem replacement k&n filter with no lid on it then its not doing anything for your motor at all lol... all the air and trash would be going straight into your MAF and whatever got through there directly into your intake manifold... hell might as well descreen it lol jk don't do that... sounds like a ghetto cold air setup to me haha... but with the way people are these days i honestly wouldn't be suprised if someone has tried that already

Nope thats the way it should be. Thats the KnN FIPK kit. I have the samething on my car, but made a little box around the filter to seal it off from the engine heat but I have an aftermarket Suncoast hood.

I have that same setup, it's the K&N FIPK. You have a WS6? I have an '02 SS with SS hood and i'm told to put a lid with the cold air vent from under a lid is better so i'm going that route. If you think about it, the filter you have now (and I have as well) is also sucking up the engine heat. On a dyno, using the FIPK like you have, my numbers were 20 tq and 20 hp lower with the hood down than it was open. Just something to think about.

im not too familiar with that kit but from the looks of it, if you remove that filter and want to put a lid on then you will need the stock lower airbox so the lid will have something to hold it on and the MAF will fit into the end of the opening on the lid so you should be good there

But honestly i say stick with what you have, why spend $300 bucks on something that your not gonna end up using.

If you get a lid you need to replace the whole radiator support (the black part under the k&n) because the lid needs the lower airbox to bolt up to. The stock radiator support has the lower airbox built in to it, if you don't have it don't even bother with a lid, just leave it as is.
