Default Programmer

Hey guys, I was wondering what type of programmer is the best? I know SLP, Superchips, Hypertech, and a few other companies have them? Which will give me the most bang for my buck? Which is the most user friendly?

The handheld programmers can only do so much. If you really want to see results, especially in modified cars, you should get a laptop and EFILive, LS1 Edit etc.

+1...I use HpTuners (basically the same as EFILive). The added cost is worth it over a handheld programmer. They are a waste of money IMO.

if your going to go with a handheld programmer I think the Diablosport Predator is a very good choice.

HPTuners is a laptop tuning software that gives you almost umlimited possibilities when tuning. Handhelds might firm up the shifts a little bit and bump up your timing but with HPTuners (or EFILive, LS1 Edit, etc.) you can play with the air-fuel ratio, MAF, VE tables, etc. The list goes on and on. You can find out more here:

There is a learning curve however, but with a lot of reading, anybody can learn it.

How is a gain of 16HP (camaro performers magazine) a waste of money? Please enlighten me.

It could be a waste of money down the road if you plan on doing some major mods because you will have to get it professionally tuned. So you will spend $300-400 for the programmer then another $300-400 down the line for the dyno tune when you can spend less on the HPTuners or EFILive right away.

So if you plan on staying nearly stock, then its probably not a waste of money. But most people on here are looking to do some mods to their car that will require a professional tune.

Either way not really a waste of money - just return the stock tune and sell the handheld when you don't need it anymore...

Teakwo23, did you get my PM yesterday? I offered you my U7198 for $225

Im also a newb....do these programs (EFILive, LS1 Edit, HPTuners) re-program the stock PCM? So are they just software that hacks into the stock maps? Or is there something more involved?

The diablo predator handheld is the way to go for handhelds. I'm loving mine. Tons of features and if you have questions their forum is very useful.
