Gettin a ws6
My cousin has a built up 95 camaro and is running a 12.8, but spinning most of the way. i wanted something to keep up with it, and ive always liked the ws6. i dont know yet if i want a 6speed or a auto. i use to have a 89 silverado with the 5speed in it, which was alot of movement when i shifted and i had that down as quick as some people that had cars wiht short throw shifting. the manual appeals to me now for the better economy for the time being until i can get around to doing some work to the car, and seems like it would be more fun to drive on the street.
the auto i am weary about getting because i hear about the autos going out all the time if you dont spend the money to rebuild them. but i was also reading on here about how much more consistant they should be at the track.
Any imput on what year of car i should look into, i want the ls1? Also A4 or M6?
I just dont want to have to put money into it for about 2 years or so, have something that is fairly quick (seen stock ws6 run mid 13's), get decent fuel economy (have a truck that gets 15-16mpg at its best).
I dont want to beat his car at the moment. the mods will come to it probably after its paid off which i will try to get done as fast as possible. an exhaust will be the frist thing going on it most likely.
from what ive gathered i do like the 02 trans am. what are the main differences/ changes from 99-02?
get a ls1 6 speed, some drag radials a lid, longtubes and a tune and mid 12's is not out of the question. the vid above is by far a factory freak, but ls1s are much faster stock for stock, and mod for mod than a lt1, you'll have no problem beating your friend in a 6 speed with less than $1000 in mods

also notice in the vid what the guy says "he really needs to quit while he's ahaid"
I hear that a lot for my manual friends (until they raced my stalled ws6 then they shut up

The M6 will do better on the street, but the A4 won't run "really" good #'s until there is a stall in it. It is possible to get a great run at the track with the M6 but consistancy isn't there of course. Both of mine are M6 and get an 01-02. I'll be another to vouch for that.
whats a good price on a 01-02 with about 70k?
So go get yourself an 01-02 M6 and enjoy it forever!!!!
edit: I've had both so I'm speaking on behalf of owning both at one time unlike most of the people, but not all, who have just basically told of what they own as being the thing to have. Again, let the autos have all the fun they want at the track while you have all the fun you want on the streets. Consistency is needed in a bracket car....not a street car.........if your looking for the most fun, from experience, there's NO doubt about it that the Manual Six Speed is the way to go for a 99% street driven car!!!!!

the thing about the camaro is one its not from a dealer, and from what it looks is that the guy kept records of all the work done on it
if i go to get it, im gonna try to get him down to around 10
i really do like the look of the trans am, but the camaro is nice too
ive been seeing that there are alot of problems with the rear ends going out on the cars? is this true, or do they take alot of abuse from a stock car first?
i wanted another 01-02 cuz the LS6 goodies (intake, clutch) but settled for my 99. why? red, leather, t-tops, six speed, its exactly what i wanted and i got a decent price. so dont limit yourself to just any particular year.
as they say...an ls1 is an ls1 is an ls1 is an ls1.
I emailed the one guy about the camaro, all he has done to it is basically oil changes, hasnt had any other problems with the car.
OH and do those rear ends go out easy or do you have to do some serious abuse to them before they go out?
